Act 1 – Narrative equilibrium introduced. Themes include: diamond heist by the American gang hinted through the voice over of the main protagonist (Turkish) who is also linked to the parallel plot of boxing matches.Act 2 – The disruption starts. Highlighted with key texts “Where is the stone” and “you’re going down” hint at rigged fights. Then the montage of action shots from the fight.Act 3 – Cast are introduced using time remapping, spaghetti western influenced graphic sequence with hints of attempting to ‘fix’ the disruption.

• The first characters we see in the snatch movie trailer display stereotypical mise-en-scene to show crime as a genre. Black and silver guns strapped to the character in the centre of the screen with some sort of protective vest. All four characters in the screen shot are in smart suited clothing, which relates to their religion but also makes them seem important. When the middle character rips of his white Jewish shirt to reveal the guns it shows he is in disguise which sets the atmosphere of a typical crime genre film. Other mise-en-scene shown throughout the film is diamonds, poker settings and money. This reinforces the crime genre.

Throughout the film there is a lot of low key lighting, which helps sets the atmosphere of the crime world.Most shots are close up or wind into

close up which helps shows expressions on characters faces as the characters are the more important to the narrative than setting. The motion of the camera angle and movement is another post modern element anti-narrative creating a disruption to the flow of the piece. This adds a sort of USP making the audience want to go and see it because it is different. The sets that are shown represent the underworld setting and consequences of the crime. For example the boxing ring is badly lit and looks almost ‘home made’ in a run down building, as of course it is illegal. The caravan sight is an important setting as it relates to the characters background.

High art editingThroughout the trailer, guy Ritchie uses a range of high art editing. To exchange between scenes he uses this fast lines across the current scene. It almost has an effect of a old fashioned video breaking up. This is a post modern element that disrupts the narrative. He also uses a range of colours over the top of the scenes connotation the mood and action. This intrigues the audience and creates a manic feel to the trailer. The motion of the camera moves towards and away from the screen which encourages the active audience.

He shows a lot of close ups from a low angle which challenges basic conventions and makes the film trailer more exciting, it compliments the quick editing of frames shooting on and off the screen.

Titles..

Guy Ritchie introduces the characters by pausing on them, when they’re at the side of the shot usually just their upper half of their body. Creating a comic effect of their faces. Blurring out the background and giving it a basic colour that reflects to their personality. He uses a rounded font with stars and lines- each character with a different layout of the stars and lines, again suggesting different personalities or to maybe keep the titles fun. Heavy style graphics. This also creates a post modern feel, using a freeze frame and changing their faces and to an unrealistic colour setting using hyper-reality. I love the way this looks and it creates a unique feel to the trailer, I would like to do a similar effect in mine.

He using a different font when introducing questions and phases that relate to the narrative. It appears on a black screen in rounded lower case white writing. With a red effect shadowing it, maybe suggesting the disruption in the narrative and the fact that it is post modern by the way he has twisted a basic black and white title page. The red could connotes danger and love. The red flashes around the page keeping up the pace of the trailer. This is also seen when the main title of the film comes up.

Sound..There is a mixture of sounds in the snatch trailer. The voice Over is spoken by the main protagonist, Turkish. His voice is almost cockney, setting the genre and the narrative to the film. This voiceover mixture with the still framing anti-narrative device, allows the audience to connect with the film and characters.

There are many Non diegetic sound effects such as a fast rewind which is used to compliment the visuals and fast editing.

The voice over helps promote the Elements of comedy-to introduce the hybrid genre. One liners such as describing London as ‘fish and chips’ and the introduction of the dog as a character.

The backing track mixes up throughout the trailer, but has a continuous fast pace to it. The remixed dance music towards the end helps drive the action on and sets the atmosphere of the drug industry being competitive and fast pace.

Kill Bill ( 2003 ) CHARACTER TYPES; (Taratinochallenges the character types in this film)

The trailer presents a mixture of black and white and colour shots. The black and white ones seem to contrast the colour ones in a sense of showing a difference in lifestyle. This encourages the active audience as it compliments the non diegetic sound of the voice over. The voice over explains the narrative and introduces post modern elements of breaking the fourth wall. The first shot shows what seems to be the main protagonist bum in black. This action shows the stereotypical sexualised character of women in action movies, and the change in music represents that Taratino is challenging the character conventions. Her black outfit represents mystery and dark danger.

The trailer is made up of a Fast montage of shots introducing all scenes and characters but without Giving away the story. Between the shots there is a fire pattern that appears. This represents danger and the fast paced action genre. This is almost hyper-real again. There is a clear symbol introduced of the colour yellow. It is shown in mise-en-scene like the bike and car and her costume. This helps us to identify the Main protagonist as she stands out. This is particularly noticeable when she is put into a setting with a white snow background fighting a women wearing white. Tarantino creates an iconic moment as she is seen to be angelic almost in her white in the snow when actually she is going again the character of the bride that the audience is fighting for to win.The non diegetic music starts slow which shows a closed identity then slow motion almost on her face which has an almost fast burst of music into fast/hurry action showing the action genre.

The Yellow symbolic colour comes through again in the titles. This creates a continuity between the shots as it ties is all together. The Yellow background is contrasted with a paint like slashes across the screen in different angles. This could represent the messy action of the genre. Yellow is quite a mellow bright colour contrast with the black to show the danger.

One title that he puts in is stating that he is the director. This creates excitement as he is a well known producer which gives this film automatic credit, and sets the tone.

It is clear that he aims to attract an active audience with such faced paced editing and lots of diegetic sound effects. The sound effects are of the mise-en scene like the knifes and swords which again reinforce the genre. They are quite sharp sounds which are loud and work well with the fast paced beat that accompanies them.One camera shot he uses is a Fast zoom. This almost breaks forth wall as it is of the main characters eyes looking directly at the camera. The voice over compliment this as it also breaks the forth wall explaining her life and events. This is good as it really engages the audience.

Additionally he uses time remapping to create slow motion in a variety of places, this adds tension/mystery and is perfect for the action genre. He does this at one point when the camera is following her fly backwards, this creates a sort of disorientation feel making the hyper-reality real and the viewer more active and aware it’s a film.

The post modern element is shown through Tarantino’s attention to detail. He has challenged stereotypical action films by giving the characters old fashioned weapons to fight with e.g. samurai swords, knives, maces etc. Whilst fighting in modern day settings/locations. This makes a change to the usual gun shoot outs which last a few seconds, Tarantino has spread the action in the trailer out further whilst also making it more intimate and tense.

Strangely, Tarantino uses shots of the protagonist from a higher up angle, to make her look smaller and vulnerable. Juxtaposes the shots of the people against her in black looking down at the camera giving them a more evil character type.
