AN OPEN LETTER TO THE COMPASSIONATE

    AND SELFLESS SPONSORS OF SUFFERING

    HUMANITY

Dear Caring Friends of the Poor and Needy,

I want to share with you the words of our Lord Jesus Christ as found in Matthew 25,

which have been a strong motivation and challenge to me for the over fifty years of

    my missionary call and challenge:

31When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his throne in heavenly

glory. 32All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a

shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. 33He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left.

34Then the King will say to those on his right, Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take yourinheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. 35For I was hungry and you gave me

something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36I

needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to

visit me.37Then the righteous will answer him, Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and

give you something to drink? 38When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe

you? 39When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you? 40The King will reply, I tell you the truth,

whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me. 41Then he will say to those

on his left, Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.

42For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, 43I was a

stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and

you did not look after me.44

They also will answer, Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a strangeror needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you? 45He will reply, I tell you the truth, whatever

you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me. 46Then they will go away to eternal

punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.

I recall a day over 35 years ago, when I was lying on my cot in a small room in a primitive village near the

Bay of Bengal on the coast of Southeast India. I had been invited to minister to a huge Christian convention in

this heavy-populated but extremely remote village. I was tired and fevered from ministering to the 20,000

villagers who had come to hear the words of this American missionary.

The bed was a wooden frame with sisal rope woven to serve as a mattress. It was 5 feet longhardly long

enough for my 6 feet body. My bedding consisted only of a very old kaki army blanket no doubt left behind

when the Allies were in India during the Second World War. Rats ran everywhere in the room. The Hindu man

next door to the mission compound worshipped rats and fed them. A young orphan boy armed with an old 5-

cell flashlight was assigned to try to keep the rats off my cot as I rested.

My thoughts were about the day when I was 3 years old, and I felt a call in my heart that the Lord would

use me to minister to the poor and needy of the world. Even in these hazardous circumstances, I felt so

blessed and honored of the Lord that I was fulfilling a vision of literally fulfilling these words of Jesus.

In this passage, Jesus puts Himself in the place of the neediest human beings. I am sure that if Jesus were

to visit in your home that you would spare nothing to provide Him with your best. But in actuality, He is visiting

you in the persons of these poor and needy in India. He places himself in their stead, and says clearly that if

you want to minister to Him, you can do so by ministering to the hungry and hurting.

Will you share with me my vision of fulfilling the words of our Lord? Please visit our website,

www.feedtheorphans.org. Then ask the Lord what He would have you do to minister to the orphans and

widows in the poorest villages in India. Write to me at the address on the website. I am writing these words

from a small Asian town near Cambodia as I minister throughout India and Asia.

God richly bless you. Here is a photo of me as I am ministering in the great crusade, and some photos of

our Christmas program in one of our Childrens Homes in India.

    In Jesus love,

    Joe Maas
