This SSA provides you with an opportunity -

To develop your skills
• as reflective learners
• as independent learners
• as collaborative learners
• as enquiry-based learners
To produce and present a conference style poster
Step One
Working individually
Identify one topic from this year’s core curriculum that you would like to explore in greater depth: looking at clinical application / integration across disciplines
Prepare a very brief proposal identifying
• The topic and where it was covered in the curriculum
• The particular area(s) you want to explore / question(s) you want to ask
• Why you think this is an interesting / important subject to study
Step Two
Working in your M group
(Academics will be sitting in)
• Listen to the proposal from each group member
• Select / amalgamate topics to identify 3 poster topics for your M group
• Everybody in the group must be able to sign up to 1 topic.
• No poster group should be smaller than 4 or bigger than 8 students
• Note on the form provided the 3 selected topics
• Each student to sign up to 1 topic (no swapping later)

Each topic group will have to submit a PowerPoint file of their poster to PAGS (using a standardised format) during the afternoon of Monday 16th June. The School will pay the printing costs for these posters. PAGS is open from 14:00 to 17:00 and will not accept posters for printing after 17:00 on the 16th. Groups then have until Thursday 19th June to prepare to present and answer questions on their poster.
On Thursday, each group of students will be required to present their poster, first to a group of their peers and then to two academics.
Both peers and academics will provide feedback and score the poster against set criteria. All groups of students will therefore have two appointments on Thursday: one to present their own poster and the other to appraise a poster produced by another group. These appointments will be determined once groups have been formed.
