The best revision methods involve

being active! So don’t just sit there-

DO SOMETHING!

LEARNING IS DOING

Research shows that as learners we take in:

O 10% of what we read

O 20 % of what we hear

O 30 % of what we see

O 50 % of what we see and hear

O 70 % of what we ourselves say

O 90 % of what we ourselves do

Active revision means…

O Mind maps O Revision Cards O Mnemonics O Post-its O Writing notes O Journey technique O Reading notes aloud O Recording key points on your phone O Discussing topics with friends O Getting others to test you O Trying past papers O Use revision websites

Repetition, repetition, repetition, repetition, repetition, repetition,

repetition!

Mind Maps

Revision Cards

Use revision cards to…

O Write questions on one side, answers on the

other

O Key dates/ key words/ terminology

O Diagrams/ pictures

O Equations

O Quotations

O Golden nuggets of information

Mnemonics

How could you remember….

1. Hydrogen

2. Helium

3. Lithium

4. Beryllium

5. Boron

6. Carbon

7. Nitrogen

8. Oxygen

9. Flourine

10. Neon

How could you remember….

What do I need to revise?

Past Papers

O Revise with the exam in mind

O Understand marking criteria!

O Make sure you know what to expect in

the exam:

O How many papers will I take?

O How many questions should I

answer?

O How long is the exam?

Where should I revise?

Your Learning Environment

O Ensure your study area is: O available when you need it

O free from distractions and interruptions

O contains all your study materials

O contains a large enough work space

O has a comfortable chair

O has enough light

O has a comfortable temperature

Revision Timetable

1. Draw up a timetable for one week 2. Work through your timetable 3. Review your timetable 4. Draw up a timetable for the next week 5. Work through it 6. Review it 7. Repeat!!

There’s quite a lot of time available - if you manage it well!
