TASIM History

• Proposed by the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan – 2008

• Endorsed by the UN General Assembly Resolution - December 2009

• Project Group launched - April 2010

• International Workshop on TASIM, Project Secretariat established - July 2011

• UN General Assembly unanimously adopted a new resolution (A/Res/67/194) that reiterated support for the TASIM Project - December 21, 2012

• Preliminary Agreement signed by China Telecom, International

Relations and Accounting Center (Azerbaijan), KazTransCom, Rostelecom, Turk Telekom – December 3, 2013

Main Goals

• Deployment of one of the shortest transit “Asia – Europe” routes

• Increasing revenue provision and additional value adding services for European, Caucasian, Middle Eastern, Central Asian countries, as well as Turkey and China

• Substantial alternative transit opportunities for European, Middle Eastern and Turkish carriers to bypass Russia

• Redundant “Asia – Europe” transit route deployment via Kazakhstan territory

The Project has been divided into 4 parts based onterrestrial partnership method:

1.Chinese part:• In partnership with China Telecom• The route: Hong Kong – Urumqi – China’s border with Kazakhstan

2. Kazakhstani part: • In partnership with KazTransCom• The route: Kazakhstan’s border with China – Caspian marine
