Robotics ProgramThe Woburn RoboticsTeam 188 is a multiaward-winning team.Woburn is the firstCanadian team tocompete in the FIRST(For Inspirational andRecognition for Scienceand Technology)Robotics competition.FIRST is a multinationalengineering contest inwhich the communityworks together tobrainstorm, design,problem solve, constructand test their robot priorto any competition.Woburn continues itsrobotics legacy throughthe mentorship of newstudents by graduates.

Our school is committed to academic excellence, responsiblecitizenship, individual student growth and achievement. Weprovide a demanding curriculum for a variety of academiclevels, and many co-curricular and extra curricular activities. Ourclubs and teams excel in athletics, mathematics, technology,computers, music and drama. Our student council is active in theleadership of the Woburn community providing school wideactivities, events and assemblies throughout the year. Student Support and theWoburn CommunityStudent Support at Woburn C.I. is ateam effort. Guidance counsellors,the Special Education Department,Student Success and Focus OnSuccess work together to support allof our students to be academicallysuccessful.Student Success Programs assist students’ educationalpathways. Credit Recovery and Credit Rescue Programs givestudents the opportunity to earn credits alternatively. F.O.Sprovides support to students to help them manage the academicrigour and social, emotional and behavioural expectations of acollegiate setting.

Academic ExcellenceWoburn students achieve success in a number of pathwayspreparing them for the future. Each year, Woburn celebrates a largenumber of Ontario Scholars and the majority of our students areaccepted into the college or university of their choice. An emphasison literacy and numeracy helps to prepare students for postsecondary pursuits.

The Gifted Program and Special EducationOur Gifted Program provides a seamless transition for studentscoming from the elementary gifted program. We support our giftedstudents with a dedicated program leader who tracks studentprogress and consults with the student, teachers and parents.The Special Education Department provides support and resourcesfor all students with an IEP or IPRC designation.  

Literacy/Numeracy Support Courses Gr.9 and 10Literacy/Numeracy support classes are available for all studentsafter school., added support through locally-developed curriculum.Students are provided with intensive support and constant exposureto literacy and numeracy on a daily basis. Courses cater to anindividual’s learning style, readiness and capabilities.

Co-curricular ProgrammingWoburn offers strong co-curricular programing: many leadershipopportunities for students on the Athletic Association, MusicCouncil, Prefect Council and Student Government.Students participate in many clubs, teams and activities such asFirst Robotics, Skills Canada, DECA, Math contests, Sciencecompetitions as well as dozens of team sports running throughoutthe year.

Student Life - Where You Belong

Woburn offers over 100 clubs, teams and associationsincluding our Horticulture club, a host of music, dance,drama, visual arts and film clubs, a Library Volunteerprogram, Reading Circle, Debate team, and S.T.E.P(Students Towards Environmental Protection).Woburn Student Council, as well as other leadershipgroups are very active in fund raising initiatives for both localand global charities. The Prefects act as our goodwillambassadors and provide a welcoming environment forincoming students. They demonstrate leadership in a varietyof activities including Commencement; Parents' Night;Curriculum Night; Grade 8 Parents Night; and Grade 9Welcome Day.Woburn is a thriving community because of studentinvolvement both in and outside of the school.

We are dedicated to our Woburn community and thelearning that takes place within our walls on a daily basis. Our curricular, co-curricular and extra-curricular programshelp to positively change the lives of our students andprepare them for the future.Woburn students are exposed to a variety of post-secondarydestinations.  Through Career Fairs, Co-op, field trips toTrade Fairs, apprenticeship workshops and guest speakers,Woburn students and their parents have the opportunity toexplore a variety of post-secondary options to assist withplanning for the future.  Postsecondary presentations andfairs allow students and parents further exploration of postsecondary pathways.Woburn and its feeder schools have forged tremendous linksthrough music and art workshops, robotics, and computerprogramming. Many students also have the opportunity togain credits through co-op placements in the community,some of which are in our elementary schools.
