What is a LMS?“A learning management system (LMS) is a

software application or Web-based technology used to plan, implement, and assess a specific learning process” (Rouse, 2012).

Support meaningful, authentic student learning

How can a LMS do that?

students to have 24 hour access which helps when they miss school.

All notes and lessons are in one locationStudents can have differentiated lessonsStudents can upload their assignments for

viewing

Grades/FeedbackTeachers and students can access their grade

book daily

Feedback can be posted in the grade book

Messaging system can be used to give feedback

Online Forums

Collaboration between students/teacher

Why would somebody resist online learning?

Building pages can be cumbersomeLinks may be brokenTraining would be necessaryNot all students have computers or internet

Here are some solutions to your hesitation:

The initial work does take time but the payoff for the students is most important

There are a variety of sources that can be used, so assignments can be differentiated and meaningful to the students

A LMS is easy to navigate and much of the training can be done by yourself

The classroom needs to shift towards a student-centered environment

Bottom Line: The benefits for the students far

outweigh any reason not to use

a LMS!!
