Summary of the project

We invite students around the world to make *something interesting *something artistic*something useful out of 6 ordinary objects which we specify.

Our six objects are:

• One plastic shopping bag• One pencil• One plastic bottle• One rubber band• One sheet of paper• One paper clip

What a cool challenge !

Aim

It would be most interesting to seethe diversity of designs that

emergefrom around the world and to hearabout how each group of students

from different age groups andcultures approached this design

challenge and their resulting designs.

Results• gain a better understanding of the design and creative idea

generation process by using it to produce their school design.• gain a better appreciation for the diverse ways people can be

creative and learn new ways to tap into their innate creativity.• gain experience making decisions and resolving conflicts in

producing a team design. • learn to see their world and the ordinary objects in it from

multiple perspectives and hopefully will apply this enhanced sensitivity beyond this project.

• learn about different cultures by hearing how other schools from other cultures approached this design challenge and by comparing the resulting designs from each school.

• begin to change their mindset about creativity and invention from a fixed to a growth model (creativity and inventiveness are muscles that everyone can exercise to enhance their capacity).

Development*Participating schools indicate their interest by October1, 2010. *Schools design and build their creations duringOctober*By November 30th, post pictures and narratives(written or video) describing their design and how theyapproached the challenge. They will be posted on theproject blog*We then host a series of Skype video calls to discussdifferences and similarities in how we approached thedesign challenge and discuss how our designs reflectour culture.

Thank you!Now, let’s finally get

down to creative business!
