What is the Love/Avon Army of Women?

• An initiative recruiting ONE MILLION WOMEN willing to participate in research to let them know about breast cancer research studies in need of volunteers

• A public service empowering women of all walks of life to learn about and become part of research

• An opportunity for women wanting to do more to eradicate breast cancer

• A way to expedite study enrollment; a fast track to ONE RESEARCH GOAL

• To form new partnerships between women and scientists

• To shift from studies on lab models to human studies

• To focus on what causes breast cancer and preventing the disease before it starts

What does being an affiliate mean?

• The Army of Women website will list your organization as an affiliate along with a link back to your website

• Your organization will send out an e-blast to your members informing them of our partnership and letting them know how to sign up to the Army

• If your organization sends press releases, you will be provided with the information to be sent to the media announcing our affiliation

What does being an affiliate NOT mean ?

• It does NOT mean handing over your mailing list or database

• It does NOT mean that your members will be approached for fund raising efforts

• It does NOT mean that you will have to notify your members every time a study is broadcasted by the Army

What is an Army of Women Member?A woman who has signed up to receive “Call to

Action” e-mails about research studies

• Signing up to the Army does NOT mean a woman has signed up for an actual study

• Signing up to the Army does NOT obligate a woman to participate in any studies

What happens after a Call to Action e-mail about a study is received?

• Upon receiving the Call to Action e-mail she can choose to:

– Participate– Decline– Forward to a friend (whether participating or not)

What would a member be asked to do if they sign up for a study?

Examples of various study procedures:

• Questionnaires• Blood• Saliva• Nipple aspirate fluid (NAF)• Fine needle aspirate• Core biopsy
