What Businesses Need to Know About Becoming Work Sites for the Summer Youth Employment

Program

What Is the Summer Youth Employment Program?

The Summer Youth

Employment

Program provides

training and work

experience for low

income youth ages

14-20 helping

them to attain the

skills, training and

attitudes needed to

succeed in the

work place.

Why should your business become a work site for the Summer Youth Employment Program?

There is no financial cost – wages are paid by the Office of Employment and Training through a grant.

You will be helping to develop a well-trained work force.

You may find a terrific permanent employee.

Our Employment Counselors will visit your work site and provide support.

You’ll be helping young people develop skills and gain experience that will make it easier for them to find employment in the future.

What responsibilities do employers in the program have?

Employers must provide consistent, quality supervision of youth at all times.

Provide a safe working environment and mentoring.

Provide an orientation to the work site.

Clearly explain expectations and provide the support to help the youth meet your expectations.

Provide clear feedback about workers’ performance.

What support does the Office of Employment and Training provide for employers?
