The FA Carlsberg VaseFirst Round Qualifying
£1
On behalf of everyone connected with Southam United Football Club it gives me great pleasure to welcome you to this afternoon’s FA Vase First Round Qualifying fixture.
As a well known local radio presenter once said, “The March to The Arch starts now!!”
To the officials, players and supporters of Wednesfield we extend our greetings on their visit to Banbury Road and likewise wish a warm welcome to today’s match officials: Referee Sam Penhall; and his Assistants, Andy Gopsill & James Dempsey.
If required, 30 minutes extra time will be played today; with a possible replay at The Cottage on Tuesday 9th 7.45 pm KO.
Chairmans NotesMy last programme notes mentioned the hope that we would get some consistency in our play. Well of course the exact opposite happened as we turned in what I would consider to be the most disappointing performance of my tenure as Chairman to only draw 4 – 4 against 9 men. Too embarrassing for further words.
We are here on Saturday’s 20th & 27th September both 3.00 p.m. KO’s for the visit of Pelsall Villa and Christ The King.
Thank you for your continuing support.

Today sees us take a break from our busy league schedule to entertain Wednesfield in the FA Vase.
This competition is a great one to be involved in both from a playing point of view and from a financial perspective for the football club. I hope today is the start of a run in this competition and that we will enjoy every second of it.
We are actually in 5 cups this season as well as our busy league programme so we really are gunning on all fronts.
With that in mind I am still looking to add a few new faces to the squad in certain areas where I feel we need strengthening as the squad is more important than one or two individuals.
I have signed a second player from Worcester City this week in highly rated full back, Jack Brighton, and we welcome him today for his first home match.
Once again though today the squad is slightly depleted: Tunde Ajibade sits out the second of his 3 game suspension; skipper Myles Jones and winger Chris Bright are on holiday; Jon Grandfield and Josh Turton are injured; Nathan Jukes is working; and Tom Cooper has two matches left in the cricket season!
We should be back to full strength within a few weeks and then i am looking forward to having a selection head ache!
Enjoy the game

History of Wednesfield Football Club
Wednesfield F.C. are a football club based in Wednesfield, West Midlands, England. They were established in 1961. They have reached the 3rd round of the FA Vase twice in their history. For the 2014–15 season, they are members of the West Midlands (Regional) League Premier Division.
The club was originally formed in 1961 as Wednesfield Social FC, changing its name in 1989. They gained entry to the West Midlands (Regional) League in 1976 and won the championship of Division One A in their first season, followed by a runners-up position in Division One the very next season, clinching promotion to the Premier Division. In 1995–96 they won the Premier Division title but were not promoted, however the following year they repeated their title success and this time moved up to the Midland Football Alliance, where they remained for six seasons before a last place finish in 2002–03 saw them relegated back to the West Midlands League, where they have struggled. In fact in 2004–05 they finished bottom but were spared relegation.
After a few years of consolidation a new management team came in during 2006/07. The team finished the season in thirteenth place but the following year finished in fourth place and reach the finals of the League Cup and the J.W. Hunt Cup.
GROUND
The Cottage Ground in Amos Lane, Wednesfield has been the team’s home since 1971. For the first ten years of their existence they played at King George’s Park. The Cottage itself was an institute for homeless and orphaned children until its closure in the early 1970s, and the land where the football club is now situated had been its sports field. The highest attendance recorded at the Cottage Ground is 480. In 2003 a crowd of just 10 people was recorded for the visit of Biddulph Victoria, the lowest attendance ever recorded in the Midland Alliance.
The club currently ground-share with Wolverhampton Sporting Community.
