Groups to be familiar with: Alkali metals (Group 1; excluding hydrogen) – very reactive metals Alkaline earth metals (Group 2) – somewhat reactive Halogens (Group 17) – very reactive non-metals Noble gases (Group 18) – very unreactive gaseous non-metals (inert) Transition metals (Groups 3 – 12)
