In this lessonwewill seeandanalyse the interactivedocumentariesLasSinsombrero (Spain,TaniaBalló/SerranaTorres/Manuel Jiménez,2015)andTheQuipuProject (Peru,RosemaryLerner / María Ignacia Court, 2013-2017). Starting from these transmedia projects we willdescribe themost characteristic formalandnarrative featuresof this audiovisualproduct topropose a definition of such kind of documentaries. In addition, we will reflect on theproductionofwebdocumentariesinSpainandLatinAmerica.

TheQuipuProject. Inthe1990s,duringhis10-yearreignaspresident of Peru, Alberto Fujimori launched a new familyplanning programme that resulted in the sterilisation of272,028womenand22,004meninonly4years.Theywerealmost exclusively indigenous people living in rural areas.Thousands have claimed this was done without theirinformed consent. Their stories have taken a long time toemerge because they have almost no means of mediarepresentation, often living in isolated villages. Many ofthem are illiterate or only speak Quechua, therefore theystruggle to access the institutions of the Spanish-speakingPeruvian state. It was only after President Fujimori’sresignationin2000thattheinjusticesreallystartedtocometo light. After almost two decades they are still seekingjustice.QuipusareknottedcordsthatwereusedbytheIncasand ancient Andean civilisations, to convey complexmessages.
