SituationChipotlewaslookingforapaperlesssolutionthatwouldreduceprintingcostsandsimplifythepayrollprocess.Notonlydidtheywanttotakeanactivepartinthe“GoGreen”initiativebuttheysawpaycardsasanadditionalbenefittheycouldprovidetotheiremployees.Aspartoftheirduediligence,theyevaluatedthreecompanies:MoneyNetwork,Comdata,andGlobalCashCard.Theyhadthreecriticalfactorsinvolvedintheselectioncriteria:(1)Acustomizedimplementationprocessthatwouldfittheirspecificneeds.(2)Outstandingcustomersupport(3)Fieldsupport.

ImplementationBasedonthecriteriacitedabove,ChipotlechoseGlobalCashCardanddecidedtofurtherassesstheprogramwithapilottestat60differentlocations.TheGlobalCashCardimplementationteamconductedin-persontrainingat40storelocations.TheysuppliedacustomizedimplementationsolutionthatconsistedofmultipletrainingresourcesforstoremanagersandHRgeneralists.Thisincludedonsitetrainingsforstoremanagersandemployees.Whereonsitetrainingwasnotpossible,theimplementationteamconductedwebinarswithstoremanagement.Inaddition,theyemployedacollaborativeprocesstocreatecustomizedtrainingmanualsandprovidedemployeeswithdetailedinformationonthepaycardprogram.

ResultsThepilottestwasdeterminedtobeasuccessandarolloutprocesswasputinplacewiththegoalofhavingtheprogramimplementedinalllocationsbyApril2011.Asthecompleterollouthastakenplace,therehasbeenaveryhighlevelofparticipationinallregions,muchofwhichhasbeenattributedtothecustomizedimplementationprogramdesignedbyGlobalCashCard.

SummaryTheoverallopinionofChipotlemanagementisthatGlobalCashCardhasputthemontherighttracktowardsapaperlesssolution.Atthispoint,someregionsarealreadyashighas90%participation.Inthefuture,Chipotleintendstoincreaseparticipationinordertogo100%paperless.Toachievethis,GlobalCashCardhaspartneredwithChipotletocontinuetoeducatetheiremployeesonthebenefitsofapaycardprogramandencouragethemtoutilizepaycardseffectively.
