Traditional Andalusian style

The traditional Andalusian architecture is famous for its white walls that repels the heat and its simple, homely and small houses.

The Andalusian house

The Andalusian typical house is a small, homely house with white walls. A very usual thing is the

patio in front of or behind the house and a well on it.

BRITISH ARCHITECTURE IN HUELVA

The Riotinto CompanyIn 1870 the English arrived at the Riotinto’s quarries and formed the «Riotinto Company».Soon after, they changed the lifestyle of the village and introduced both their customs and their architecture.

The Bellavista district

One of the first things the English did was the Bellavista district, where the richest English used to live.

The Tinto Port

Another very important thing that they made was the «Tinto Port». They needed to transport the mineral to the sea for exporting it and that’s why they made the port.

The Victoria Queen District

This district is one of the most important in Huelva. It’s in the city centre and was built by the Riotinto Company for the company workers.

Casa Colón

It was built in 1883. At the beginning it was a hotel where important people of the Company stayed during their visit to Huelva.

Nowadays, it works as exhibitions and conference room.
