TOP 10 ACCIDENTS IN THE WORKPLACE

Injuries in the workplace are very common and the majority of those are random

incidents that could have been avoided if extra care was taken. Not only is it the

employers responsibility to ensure you’re safe but each employee needs to be responsible for

themselves.

These injuries can happen to anyone so it’s crucial that you look after yourself and try to look

out for people around you.

ACCIDENTAL SLIPS & TRIPS

ACCIDENTAL SLIPS & TRIPS

It’s quite common to find slippery surfaces in the work place whether it is a liquid spill on the

factory floor that hasn’t been cleared up or toilets that have not been kept clear by custodial staff.

Whilst walking around the workplace just be more aware of the surfaces you are walking on to avoid

any accidents.

BACK/NECK PAINS

BACK/NECK PAINS

If you work in an industry that requires you to lift heavy objects then you’ll find that muscle

strains to your back and neck are very common. The company you work for should

provide basic safety training on lifting techniques and supply specialist equipment

that reduces these types of injuries.

LOSS OF HEARING

LOSS OF HEARING

In some industries you might be exposed to a constant loud noise which can result in

reduced hearing. Basic safety measures such as ear protection and moving the noise-

producing machines behind special barriers can eliminate this type of injury.

ACCIDENTAL FALLS

ACCIDENTAL FALLS

Falls from ladders are the most common types of injury in the workplace. Other falls would be from

things such as scaffolding, platforms and stairwells. Employers should supply harnesses where

appropriate and keep obstructions to a minimum. If you fall and land on your head then you might be

entitled to claiming head injury compensation.

BURNS

BURNS

If you work somewhere where you work with harsh chemicals, welding equipment or

anything that heats up then you might have experienced burns. Serious burns should be

seen by a medical professional.

FALLING OBJECT INJURIES

FALLING OBJECT INJURIES

One way you can avoid serious head injures from falling objects is if you always wear a

hard safety hat. Things that fall could be from something dropping off a shelf or falling rocks

if you’re working outside. You can claim for head injury compensation if you suffer

significant head trauma.

CUTS

CUTS

There’s a wide range of machinery that could cause you to cut yourself and the main cause of injuries from this is a lack of concentration. Before using equipment you should have ben

provided with training to ensure minimal chance of injuries.

VEHICLE ACCIDENTS

VEHICLE ACCIDENTS

Some employees drive around all day for business purposes but as road accidents are amongst the most common, it’s important

they do the Safe-Driver training to reduce the chance of accidents on the road.

INHALATIONS

INHALATIONS

In factory or lab environments where employees are working with harsh chemicals,

fumes or gasses, they could suffer from poisonings or bad reactions. These types of

areas should be well equipped with emergency showers, safety goggles and

breathing masks.

REPETITIVE MOTION INJURIES

REPETITIVE MOTION INJURIES

Repetitive motions such as typing at a computer can strain muscles and tendons causing back pain. Staring at a computer

screen all day can also cause long term vision problems.
