Aim

The aim of this talk is to discuss how the teaching of formal standards including process and technical standards can be used to boast the creativity for second year computing students.

CCM2426 Professional Project Development And ManagementThis module presents key project management concepts and tools and enables the students to develop a range of skills through practising the use of these tools.

This module presents material that will give students an introduction to the difficulties of project management. It covers both the theoretical and practical aspects of project management.

 During the module the students write their individual project proposal for their third year project.

CCM2426 Professional Project Development And ManagementThe students are studying on a module on Professional Project Development and Management.

The module is taken by students in four different campuses across twelve different degree programs ranging from Computer Graphics and Games to Network Management and Security to Business Information Systems.

CCM2426 Professional Project Development And ManagementFor many of these students the most difficult part is identifying how they can imagine and then create a computing solution to real problem. We have addressed this in two ways;

By involving BA 3D Animation and Games students in some of the group work.

By introducing all of the students to the idea of the creation and use of standards to support their work both with respect to what they will do and how they will do it.

Next YearNext year we will be expanding the use of standards in the module. The students will be focusing on a project within the scope of their degree. They will have to;

Identify how formal standards support this area.

Identify the most relevant standards and standard bodies.

Explain the contribution of standards to this area.

Identify possible standard gaps and suggest how those gaps could be filled.
