His son Khusrau revolted against him in alliance with Man Singh.

Conquests and Campaigns

Jahangir’s achievements were less spectacular compared to Akbar’s.

He had a vast empire

In A.D 1613 Jahangir marched against Rana Amar Singh of Mewar, the son of Rana Pratap who like his father refused to accept the suzerainty of the Mughals.

Rana Amar Singh was defeated. He remained loyal to Salim. Jahangir conquered also

Kangra,Avadh,Bengal

Shah Jahan’s march to Deccan

Now turned his attention towards the Decan. He sent his son Shah Jahan to campaign

against Malik Ambar . Shah Jahan annexed Ahmednagar in AD

1616 only for Malik Ambar to regain same a few years later

The Deccan was always a concern for The Mughals .

The fight for Kandahar

Akbar conquered Kandahar but soon The Persians retaliated by attacking it in 1622 .

Shah Jehan rebelled against Jehangir and refused to go to save Kandahar .

The loss of Kandahar was a big blow for The Mughals as both trade suffered and it was easy to ward of the attacks of The West Asians and Central Asians with Kandahar in control

Relation with the Europeans

Jahangir was initially liberal with The Portuguese traders .

They incurred his wrath when they began to indulge in piracy and attack Mughal ships .

Trade with The East India Company flourished under Jahangir with a factory being set up in Surat

Ambassadors of The East India company left behind detailed accounts of Jahangir’s administrative prowess

Why did Jahangir marry Nur Jahan?

Nur Jahan was a noble in Akbar’s court.

She married Sher Afghan When Sher Afghan died she lived

with her father.

Jahangir was attracted by her humour and intelligence.

So he married her.

Nur Jahan

She started to influence Jahangir with intelligence and creative abilities. Because of this Jahangir started to consult her on state matters and administration

After Jahangir fell ill Nur Jahan took care of the empire for almost 16 years. She also appointed her family members at high posts.

Father – wazir , Asaf khan – Mir saman.Khurram khan revolted against Nur Jahan and

Jahangir, nobles also revolted against Nur Jahan under the leadership of mohabet khan a general of Jahangir.
