A bit of background

The internet is ~60 years old.

Sends packets over a network.

The first operational packet-switching network was called ARPANET, and was deployed in 1969. Living Internet, 2000. Lawrence Roberts Manages the ARPANET Program. [Online] Available at http://www.livinginternet.com/i/ii_roberts.htm [Accessed 8 December 2011]

1. The First Email

The first true network email was sent in 1971 by a chap called Ray Tomlinson, over the ARPA network.

SNDMSG + CPYNET = ???

1. The First EmailTo test it out, Tomlinson sent several quick messages from one machine to another directly beside it.

The messages were successfully sent via theprotocol.

Email was announced byitself.
