A bit of background

The internet is ~60 years old.

Sends packets over a network.

1. The First Email

The first true network email was sent in 1971 by a chap called Ray Tomlinson, over the ARPA network.

1. The First EmailTo test it out, Tomlinson sent several quick messages from one machine to another directly beside it.

The messages were successfully sent via theprotocol.

Tim Berners-Lee (British!) originally created the first “web” at CERN by 1990. He introduced:• HTTP• CERN httpd• HTML• “WorldWideWeb” Browser• Webpages about the project

Berners-Lee originally created the WWW so that researchers at CERN could share information much easier than previously possible.

SOPA, or the Stop Online Piracy Act, is a bill that is being passed through the United States House of Representatives.

decides if a site infringes• Site owner notified of court order• Action taken• Owner sent to prison
