Students are very much visual learners. ‘ Video is a “revolution” It provides strong

context through which to teach English. Pedagogic roles: it facilitates cognition,

nurtures affective characteristics, provides realistic experience, and demonstrates skills

Why videos?

Teachers should play videos in the classroom like any audio.

Think of the video as a malleable material, like any other classroom material for learning

Don’t be afraid to pause, rewind, and fast-forward the video.

Use it as a tool for reference of language and study points.

How to Use Videos

1. Using only videos and online learning, the teacher sets up the content and learning environment.

2. Blending video into the existing curriculum and course, (combining traditional print (textbooks) with the power of video).

3. Using videos as a supplement for engagement or re-enforcement, (to provide context and prompt student schema/background knowledge).

Approaches to Using Videos in the Classroom

Different Ways to Use Videos

Keep the video short (2-4 minutes) Watch the whole video first. Always preview the video. Use videos your students like.
