TECHNOLOGY FOR THE NEW

EVANGELIZATION FATHER MATTHEW J. ALBRIGHT

Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI

“Believers are increasingly aware that, unless the Good News is made known

also in the digital world, it may be absent

in the experience of many people for whom this

existential space is important.”

World Communications Day 2013

Pope Francis

Be courageous Christians!Reach out to people far

awaythrough the digital means.

Bring forth the new and the old

• Then He said to them, “Therefore every scribe instructed concerning the kingdom of heaven is like a householder who brings out of his treasure things new and old.” Matthew 13:52

Bring forth the new and the old

• Pope John XXIII – Opening Speech of Vatican II• The Council is to “to transmit the doctrine, pure

and integral” for “the Church should never depart from the sacred patrimony of truth received from the Fathers.”

• The Church “must ever look to the present, to the new conditions and new forms of life introduced into the modern world, which have opened new avenues to the Catholic apostolate.”

Bring forth the new and the old

• Today, we translate this message into technology as we seek new technological avenues to transmit the ancient truths revealed by God.

– They can be used for much more, including daily sharing of spiritual ideas and reflections.

Podcasting – Sharing Audio Files– Homilies are the primary way in which most people

come in contact with reflection on the Word of God and the teaching of the Church. If they do nothing else, most Catholics at least go to Mass a few times a year.

– Sharing the parish homily is an effective way to bring people in touch with the parish liturgical life and nourish those who do not always make it to church, who are from outside the parish, or who want to listen to a homily again.

– Sharing talks, presentations and classes given in the parish can be helpful for the same reasons.

Podcasting – Sharing Audio FilesAn Easy Process…

• Step One: Digital Recorder• Step Two: Upload Software• Step Three: Editing • Step Four: File Storage• Step Five: Posting to the Blog
