Welcome to worship at St. Simons Presbyterian Church. During the announcements please take a moment to sign and pass the friendship register located at the end of the pew. As you enter the sanctuary, please silence your cell phones. All children are welcome in worship. If you prefer, a nursery (located in the children’s hall at the rear of the church) is available for children from birth to five years. Worship resources for children are available at the sanctuary entrances.

Welcome & Announcements Rev. Alan Dyer

We gather in worship to

attend to the presence of

God in our lives. In worship

we see the world in light of

God’s grace, and go forth

with a vision and power for

living in the world as God’s

people. The rhythm of the

life of the believer moves

from worship to ministry,

from ministry to worship.

Please stand if able.*

Today we celebrate the

sacrament of baptism.

The word “sacrament”

comes from the Latin

sacramentum, which

means “mystery.”

Sacraments (in our

tradition baptism and

the Lord’s Supper) are

holy mysteries that we

do not and cannot fully

understand but through

which we believe God’s

invisible grace becomes

visible to us. The great

early church theologian

Augustine (354- 430)

was the first to describe

sacraments as “outward,

visible signs of inward,

spiritual grace.”

“People have an idea that

the preacher is an actor

on a stage, and they are

the critics, blaming or

praising the preacher.

What they don’t know is

that they are the actors

on the stage; the preacher

is merely the prompter

standing in the wings,

reminding them of their

lost lines.”

Chancel Flowers: The chancel flowers are given by Sam O. Franklin to the glory of God and in loving memory of Sandra St. Clair Franklin.

Christian Sympathy: Together, we extend Christian sympathy to the family and friends of Kurt Anderson, grandson of Anne Marie Stirewalt, who entered into rest on Sunday, August 4.

A Note From Anne Marie Stirewalt: Since my grandson’s accident almost three years ago, I have received so many notes, calls, and good wishes for him from this loving congregation of friends. There are no words to express how my family has been warmed and comforted by knowing your prayers have been lifted for him. Thank you. It is truly a blessing to be a part of this church family.
