• Introduction• Activity 1: Evading Motion Detection• Activity 2: Taking a tour of some sensors• Activity 3: Making Microphone• Activity 4: Exploring the Piezo Effect :Inside story• Design Project: Design a coin counter• Product Idea: Fishing Sensor

Introduction: Sensors

• Smart sensors are nearly every where from your mobile phone to smoke detectors.

• There are normal sensors and smart sensors, smart sensors tendto be faster and function better than normal sensors.

Activity 1: Evading Motion Detection

• Motion detectors basically detects motion • We understood that motion detectors detect

heat and motion (using infra-red)• The range was 12 feet and in a cone shape.

Activity 2: Taking a tour of some sensors

• We tested some sensors and discussed the input and output of those objects.

•Conclusion: sensors detect many things such as heat, pressure and touching.

Activity 3: Making Microphone

Without substance With substance

•We made a microphone using PVDF (polymer), one is rigid and the other is flexible.

Conclusion: flexible PVDF is more sensitive than the rigid one

Activity 4: Exploring the Piezo Effect :Inside story

We understood how the structure of the polymer is.We also understood that when we apply

pressure on the polymer it produces piezoelectric effect.

Design Project: Design a Coin Counter

•We measured the mass using a balance and voltage using data logger

Design Project: Design a Coin Counter•We understood that coin counter depends on mass of coin to have variety in voltage.•We found out that the mass to voltage has a sequence, so we used this sequence to find out the mass of the 4th coin.•The coin falls due to gravity.

COIN: 1 2 3 4

Final ProjectFishing Sensor

• Introduction and Rationale: • Qatar is near the sea and has a huge source of fish

and fishing needs so much effort from people.• What was new in this product is using sensors.• Physics is what we are dealing with because sensors

and the energy is what is we need to make the product.

Fishing Sensor• Aim of the work (objectives)• Making fishing easier and have more fish at the

same time.

Fish SensorHypothesis

• Qatar is near the sea and it has a huge source of fish • This project would make fishing

easier• To catch fish so much effort is needed• Make it water proof.

Fish sensorMethods and Materials

Materials:

Motion detector

Method: The fish tank will have a motion detector to detect fish and make an alarm to inform fishers that the tank is full.Fish

Gargour

Fish sensorResults

• Reducing effort on catching fish • Getting more fish• Less fish will die when the tank is full because

the alarm will go on when the tank is full.

Fish sensorRecommendations

• We recommend doing more research and to make the idea better

• Make it cheap and easy to provide.

We were the winners of the week in the workshop
