Importing AssetsAssets means the video clips, still images and sound files that you will use to build your project. Click Add Media and choose the folder where your assets are stored. Select the files you need and choose Open. They will then appear in the area below.
Your files will appear here
Trimming and splitting
On the Timeline, drag the marker along and use the Set In Point, Set Out Point and Split buttons to edit the movieclip.
Adding sound clips
Click on Insert/Audio track. Find your file in the media collection and drag and drop it onto the audio track in the right place. You might want to mute the audio track that came with the video, or right-click and choose delete.

Transitions
Each start and end of clip will have a cross-fade triangle. You can drag this out to extend the transition, or click on it and choose Transition Gallery to choose a different type of transition.

Effects
Click on Insert/Video effect and choose the effect you want.
Exporting
Click on Export, select File and choose the file type you want.
More on sound
Click on the speaker to mute a track. Click the triangle to the left of the speaker to show attributes. You can adjust the volume of the track by dragging the line up and down. Panning moves the sound between left and right speakers. Each clip has a fade effect you can apply by dragging it along.
Fade effect
You can add more than one soundclip on an audio track just like you add more video clips to a video track.
Adding text
Click on Insert Text Clip and type in your text. You can extend the cross-fade option to blend your titles with your main video.
Compression
Different video formats apply a different amount of compression – this will affect the size and quality of your file. The higher the quality, the bigger the file size, so we need to balance one against the other, considering the purpose of our video – highest quality for viewing at home, but lower and therefore smaller for publishing on the web. We also need to think about what software is needed to view the file. .wmv or .mp4 are both good options for our video.
Recording narration
There is a Record Narration button above the timeline. Alternatively, record your narration separately in Audacity then import it as an audio file.
Text effects
Click on your text segment and choose the format button for lots of formatting options.

Different types of files
Try exporting your video in two or three different formats, then view them to see the quality and inspect their properties to see the file size. Then make a choice and write about why you have chosen that one – what do you intend to do with your video? Does it need to be high quality or is it more important that it is a small file size?
