Requirements for Studying Abroad

• Language Very few programs have requirements

• Good health - physically, mentally and emotionally - • to help ensure the safety of participants, and a • positive experience

• Open to new experiences and ready for challenges

Age 15-18 for high school programs, 18 and older for Gap-year programs

GPA 2.8 for year and semester programs

Online Fundraising Resources

• Sponsor an AFSer: Online Fundraising Tool available to students

• Student provided code for widget to add to blog

• Donations go directly to student tuition

• Contributor information sent to students twice a month

Outbound Sponsored Programs

National Security Language Initiative for Youth (NSLI-Y)

Fully funded scholarships sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. Approximately 600 scholarships to learn Arabic, Chinese, Hindi, Korean, Persian, Russian, and Turkish for a year or a summer.

Kennedy-Lugar Youth Exchange and Study (YES) Abroad Program

55 full scholarships through YES Abroad for students to study for up to one year in countries with significant Muslim populations, including Bosnia & Herzegovina, Egypt, Ghana, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mali, Morocco, Oman, South Africa, Thailand and Turkey. Sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.
