1. THERMOSTART DEVICE
The thermostart which is efficient at ambienttemperatures of --18! C, comprises a heatingelement fitted in the intake manifold. When thethermostart is switched on it ignites fuel in themanifold, thus heating the air before it enters thecombustion chamber.
The thermostart is activated when the key is turnedanti-clockwise. It is actioned for 15 seconds.
TEST PROCEDURE
Voltage
Turn the ignition key to the thermostart position. 12Vbetween the BROWN / RED wire and EARTH (for 15seconds only).

2. COOLANT TEMPERATURE SENDER
The resistance of the temperature sender changesproportionally to the temperature of the coolant,which makes it possible to send a modulated voltagesignal to the instrument cluster to operate the bargraph / temperature gauge.

3. ENGINE OIL PRESSURE SWITCH
If the engine oil pressure drops below 0.68 bar, thewarning lamp is illuminated.
As the switch is a normally open type, the warninglamp is illuminated when the ignition is switched onand the engine is not running.

4. ENGINE OIL PRESSURE SENDER
The resistance of the oil pressure sender variesproportionally with the engine oil pressure, whichmakes it possible to send a modulated voltage signalto the instrument cluster to operate the engine oilpressure bar graph (EIC only).

5. ALTERNATOR
This sends a square wave signal, the frequency ofwhich varies between 142.5 and 855 Hz (480--3060rpm) to the microprocessor and to the instrumentpanel.
TEST PROCEDURE
With the engine running, the warning light should goout. If not, disconnect the wire connected to theterminal D+. When D+ is not connected and thewarning light goes out, there is a fault with thealternator. If it does not go out, then check the wiringloom for a short to earth between D+ cable and thewarning light.

6. AIR FILTER RESTRICTION SWITCH
The warning lamp will illuminate when the switch hasbeen closed for 5 seconds.
When the vacuum pressure on the engine side of theair intake filter exceeds 46.7 mm Hg, the warninglamp is illuminated. This is a normally open switch.
TEST PROCEDURE
Voltage
12V between the BLACK / GREY and BLACKwires.
Checking the Switch
Removing the rubber plug and pressing against thebottom of the switch with a suitable probe, shouldcause the switch to close.

7. BRAKE FLUID LEVEL SWITCH
When the fluid level drops below the minimum level,a warning lamp is illuminated intermittently. This is anormally open switch.
TEST PROCEDURE
Voltage
Handbrake Off. 12V between the RED / PINK andthe BLACK wires.
Resistance
If the level is correct, resistance is infinite.
If the level is too low, there is continuity.

8. FUEL INJECTION PUMP
The emissionised Fuel Injection Pump (FIP) has anelectric lift pump, a temperature related switch, awaxmotor and a shut-off solenoid.
TEST PROCEDURE
Fuel Pump
Fuel pump resistance 1.6" across the two wires,BLACK and PURPLE / YELLOW.
12 V PURPLE / YELLOW to EARTH.
Temperature Switch
The temperature switch is normally open when coldand closed when hot. Supply voltage of 12V at thePURPLE / YELLOW.
Wax Motor
The wax motor has a typical resistance of 6" whencold and 10" when hot.Voltage of 12V when engine is hot and thetemperature switch closed.

9. HAND BRAKE SWITCH
When the handbrake has been applied, the switchwill be closed and the warning lamp is illuminated.
An alarm will be triggered if wheel movement of morethan 0.8 km/h is detected when the handbrake hasbeen applied and the ignition is switched on.
This alarm is also activated for 2 minutes when theignition has been switched off and the handbrake hasnot been applied.
TEST PROCEDURE

12V at RED / PINK to EARTH.
NOTE: The orange and white wire (or blue on theside of the switch) is only connected where the‘‘Italian’’ trailer braking system is fitted.

10. FUEL GAUGE SENDER
The signal from the fuel sender potentiometerdetermines the fuel level displayed on the instrumentcluster gauge.

11. LOW TRANSMISSION OILPRESSURE SWITCH
If the transmission oil pressure drops below 11 bars,the warning lamp will be illuminated. This is anormally closed pressure switch.
When there is no pressure in the system, contact ismade between the two terminals of the switch.

12. OIL FILTER RESTRICTION SWITCH
When the temperature is greater than 40! C andwhen the suction pressure on the pump side of thefilter exceeds 406 mm Hg (5812 mm H2O), thevacuum switch illuminates the warning lamp. This isa normally open switch.
TEST PROCEDURE

When the 40! C temperature switch is closed circuit,i.e. greater than 40! C, or shorted out.

13. 40!C SWITCH (OIL TEMPERATURE)
When the transmission oil temperature exceeds40! C, this switch (1) enables the oil filter restrictionswitch. This is a normally open thermocontact.
TEST PROCEDURE
To check the switch, submerge it in oil. If thetemperature of the oil is in excess of 40! C, theswitchshould close and there should be continuity betweenthe two terminals.

14. LOW CHARGE PRESSURE SWITCH
If the charge pressure drops below 0.8 BAR, it willcause the warning lamp to flash. The warning lampwill flash when the switch has been closed for 5SECONDS. This is a normally closed switch.
TEST PROCEDURE
Voltage
The voltage measured between RED / BROWN /BLACK wires and EARTH should be 12V.
Pressure Switch
Contact must be established between theconnection socket (earth) and the pressure switch.

15. RADAR
This detects the forward speed of the tractor andsends a signal to the instrument cluster to display thetractors speed, the percentage of wheel slip, thedistance and the cumulative total area worked.

Frequency
The signal frequency should be 83 Hz. This is difficultto measure with conventional test equipment.

22. TRANSMISSION SPEED SENSOR
This sensor measures the output speed of thetransmission.
If the tractor is fitted with a radar, the signal from thetransmission speed sensor is used for the calculationof the percentage wheel slip.
TEST PROCEDURE
Resistance
There should be a resistance of 2.5 k" across thesensor wires.

23. BRAKE PEDAL SWITCHES
When either brake pedal is applied, the relevantswitch closes, causing the appropriate brake light toilluminate. These switches, when closed, also senda signal to the processor for the operation of the fourwheel drive and differential lock. This is a normallyopen switch.

24. FORWARD/REVERSE DUMPSWITCH

28. PWM SOLENOID VALVES
There are two PWM units fitted to a 24x24transmission and four fitted to a 16x16 transmission.

Resistance
The resistance of the solenoid coil, measured at theterminals, should be between 8 and 11 ".
Frequency
The supply signal has a high frequency which isdifficult to measure with conventional equipment.
Voltage
Average voltage 8.5V.

Differential Lock
When the differential lock is engaged, the voltage atthe solenoid terminals should be 12V, and when it isnot engaged, it should be 0V.
Power Take Off
When the PTO is engaged, the voltage at thesolenoid terminals should be 12V and when it is notengaged, it should be 0V.
Creep
When creep is engaged, voltage at solenoidterminals should be 12V and when not engaged 0V.
Dump
When energised by 12V, low pressure oil is directedto the PWM valves.
Four Wheel Drive
When the FOUR WHEEL DRIVE is engaged, thevoltage at the solenoid terminals should be 0V, andwhen it is not engaged, it should be 12V.
