Agriculture & Primary Industry The Dalby and Surrounding district enjoys the economic stability due to the diversity of rural enterprises developed over many years. Dalby has emerged as a strategic trading centre for receiving and marketing a large proportion of Queensland's thriving agricultural and livestock production. The black soil plains of the Darling Downs are considered the richest farming land in the country. This region is one of the few places in the world where it is possible to grow both winter and summer crops in the same paddock in one year. GRAIN PRODUCTION All types of crops grown including cereals, course grains, legumes, bird seeds, oil seeds. Dalby is one of the largest grain receiving centres in the State, handling substantial tonnages of wheat, barley and sorghum. COTTON PRODUCTION District plantings of irrigated and dryland cotton average 68,000 ha. Three cotton gins in the region operate seven days a week, 24 hours a day from April to July. The gins and cotton farms are major employers in the area. LIVESTOCK PRODUCTION The Dalby region has developed an important intensive animal feedlot industry and is currently Queensland's largest livestock selling centre with 150,000 head of cattle marketed annually. In addition, the saleyards also auction 125,000 sheep and lambs each year and is one of the selected saleyards involved in the livestock marketing reporting service. COAL MINING Macalister coal reserves in the adjoining shires are at present a valuable resource of first grade steaming coal. TIMBER INDUSTRY 3 sawmills harvest timber from the large state pine forests in the district. ***** In addition to agriculture, mining and timber production, many emerging rural industries operate in the area. These include cut flower production, aquaculture, ostrich farming, viticulture and farm stays.

Industrial Sector & Investment Opportunity
Dalby is offering a wealth of opportunity for investors: a booming property market, commercial and industrial land availability, a skilled workforce, and rapidly growing business and industry sectors.
Dalby is well established as an industrial centre for agricultural, commercial, and industrial activity. The business community is widely regarded as a leader in the design, manufacture and marketing of agricultural equipment with many manufacturers established in Dalby producing heavy-duty products.
Its close proximity to the densely populated south-east corner of the state also ensures that Dalby keeps abreast of the advances in communication and technology, whilst taking advantage of lower costs than the larger cities with low cost industrial land available.
The town is well serviced with water, sewerage, and natural gas.
Dalby's infrastructure and stable, educated workforce make business establishment or relocation a realistic possibility. In fact, there is a promising future for investors in the district. Many opportunities are closely linked with the agricultural pursuits of the surrounding rural area. However, after years of agriculture underpinning the economic wealth and sustainability, the region is now in the midst of unprecedented investor interest and growth, brought about by the development of abundant natural resources in close proximity to the expanding south-east corner of Queensland and within easy access of northern New South Wales and Victoria.
In an ever changing, ever developing business world, the Town of Dalby is ideally situated to take advantage of the unprecedented growth that will occur in this region during the next five years.
The growth is underpinned by base load energy developments for Australia with long-term sustainability and is not subject to the fluctuations of the export market like other resource boom and bust developments.
Dalby is central to the Surat Basin and its associated rich coal deposits and gas fields. Between Roma and Dalby, there are 50 coal exploration permits, 18 granted mining leases, 29 exploration permits, 74 petroleum leases and 54 granted authorizes to prospect.

Up to 400 CSG wells are expected to be drilled in the area over the next 20 years.
The expansion of Spring Gully includes: 30 new wells A new gas plant at Strathblane Expansion of the existing Spring Gully plant Expansion of existing road and water infrastructure.
