Unleashing the Kashmiri Saffron

Saffron or Kesar as called in Hindi, is among the most expensive spices in the world and is known to have umpteen benefits.

Production:Requires:- Cool dry climate- Well drained rich soil for growth. 

Predominantly grown in Spain, Kashmir and Iraq.

The saffron from Pampore in Kashmir is considered to be of the highest quality in the world.

DIFFERENCE BETWEEN REAL AND FAKE SAFFRON.

FAKE SAFFRON - Coloured corn husk, sweet fades its colour when put in water.

REAL SAFFRON - Has an aroma and flavour, doesn’t lose it’s colour.

Kahwa : The Traditional drink of Kashmir.

- An infusion of natural spices. - Helps in keeping the body warm, congestion & flu at bay.

- Adds a beautiful glow to the skin

Preparation Method (2 cups)  

Ingredients: - 2.5 cups of water- 2 gms of cinnamon bark- 1 cardamom - 3-4 strands of Saffron Threads- 1 coarsely crushed Walnut (Optional)- 1 teaspoon honey (Optional)

Process:- Boil 1 cup of water with a cinnamon bark and cardamom pods. 

- Once the water begins to boil, remove from flame and add 3-4 strands of saffron. 

- Cover and let it stand for 2 minutes for saffron to infuse into the water. 

- Add, blanched nuts such as Almonds and Walnuts.

Serve hot in small rounded Kawa cups. Honey may be added for flavour as per preference.
