Club Bulletin
Our recent fundraiser "Along Comes Mary" on the 23rd August was a resound-ing success and I would per-sonally like to thank every-one involved in putting this event together and who helped on the day, particu-larly Linda Sweeney and Bronwyn Lambert. The two
or should I say three Marys were great enter-tainers and had the art of audience participa-tion down to a fine art. With 128 people attend-ing and over $3,700 raised, I couldn't help won-dering what might have been if the whole club had really got behind this event from the start and sold all 200 tickets. Despite not selling out it was a great night that combined fundraising with our Rotary ethos of having fun and defi-nitely looks to be repeated next year. So let's all get behind it next time and make sure it is a sell-out.
Thanks to all who attended last week for our club forum and contributed. There were some interesting and valid points raised which were discussed at our board meeting and some of these will be addressed at club assembly next week. We will be making a few simple changes to hopefully get all members more actively en-gaged in the running of the club and more in-formed. And with the end of winter and the
Raffle books were handed out and an offer/request made for someone to attend Risk Manage-ment/Child Safety training and to accompany our NYSF candidate to the orientation day.
Moving to Club Forum mode John Yard had anoth-er word about the wild dog problem with various people adding to the conversation. The need for careful research, for good presentation to other clubs and to the possibility of non-monetary sup-port in the form of awareness raising and advoca-cy were all discussed. The matter to be discussed by the Board. Peter H brought up the matter of Committee meetings (or lack of them) with the suggestion that perhaps a meeting be given over to Committee meetings every two months or so—again to be considered by the Board. Finally Peter O drew our attention to the radically different Ser-geant's session and asked for feedback on the new style. Please have a word to Peter!
Peter introduced guest speaker Profes-sor Rob Lewis who has been with us twice before. Rob is an award winning sci-entist and marine bi-

ologist and he completed the story of scientific research with a fascinating account of moving the discovery component of scientific research to the outcome/application/profit/utility phase of operation. Rob led us through the process of commercialization and delivery to the market in an impressive case study on the Root Disease Testing Service. Even though overtime, all mem-bers were engrossed by his presentation.
Finally, Phil asked for a special effort this Friday in providing the BBQ for Woodlands—St Peters
