Outlining steering conversions offered by Aston Workshop.

TRANSCRIPT

As one of the biggest specialists dealing in ClassicAston Martins, we are finding an increasing demandfor LHD cars and the availability of such cars is ex-tremely small. That this is the case is perhaps notsurprising bearing in mind that only some 10% ofthose Aston Martins manufactured up until the intro-duction of the DB7were sold as original LHD cars. Asa result, we are finding an increasing demand for LHDconversions, which we are very well placed to meet.

Many prospective customers may well think thatchanging the specification of any rare car, such as anAston Martin, would detract from both its originalityand value. This may be the case if major changes areenvisaged to the appearance or there is a major devi-ation from the original in some major mechanicalitem, such as fitting a Jaguar engine into a DB4. In-deed, as was originally found when many AustinHealeys and E-Types were re-imported back to the UKand converted to RHD, that values did to some extentsuffer, largely as a result of the quality and originalappearance of those converted deviating significantlyfrom the original RHD car. No more.

On the contrary, we are routinely now finding thatvaluable Aston Martins that have been sold recentlyto overseas customers normally driving on the right, are being bought and converted to LHD and that apremium is often achieved. As a result the value of acar converted from RHD to LHD is as much and oftenmore than the cost of the conversion.

There are however, a number of clear provisos inmaking this claim. First and foremost, the conversionhas to be such that the car is precisely as it wouldhave been had it been manufactured from new as aLHD car. The second key proviso is that the quality ofthe conversion has to be flawless and that the carhas the precise appearance of an original LHD car.
