How did I become involved...?

• In September 2010 I retired from the NHS.• At the time I was Directorate Manager for

Pathology and Therapies. • Clinical background Haematology and Blood

Transfusion. • I was approached to take on the role of Chair of

the Organ and Tissue Donation Committee by the Medical Director.

• Regular meetings with the CLOD and SNOD

• Quarterly Committee meetings

• Found my links within the Trust helpful

• Alliance site for tissue donation• Working closely with the Tissue Donation Team• Nurses and PM staff being trained in retrieval

• Attended National Congress 2013• Presentations of other Trusts Media Campaigns– Nottingham ‘Be a hero campaign’– Torbay ‘I Live, I Give’

• We were inspired to make plans to launch our own campaign to recruit potential donors to the register.

I DONATE the drivers...• Three people die every day in the UK through

lack of donors• There are 146 people waiting for organ

donation in Northamptonshire• If potential donors are on the Donation

Register 95% of families agree to donation• If they are not on the register only 43% of

families agree to donation

Identifying our needs• Funding• Local Northamptonshire Campaign• Need to create a seamless campaign that was

social network integrated• Something that we wouldn’t be able to create

independently without help• CREATIVEFOLKS a local Northampton web design

company were commissioned to create the campaign and material.

Campaign• The I DONATE campaign

is aimed to encourage the people of Northamptonshire to sign up to the NHS Organ Donor Register and let those closest to them know that they want to be an organ donor and give life.

• Launch event planned at Northampton County Cricket Club

• 20/20 Cricket Match – Northampton versus

Durham

• 27th June 2014• Ball and player

sponsorship

• Bowl the stump competition in the nets and during half time using campaign T-shirts

• Sweat bands and head bands for sign ups

• Twitter and Facebook integrated campaign

• Local celebrities identified to tweet following the launch of the campaign

• Integration with local businesses to provide prizes

• Cricket Club engaged with the campaign

Vision for the future

• Second cricket match planned for family day this summer.

• Plan to re-launch over winter, to approach the Northampton Rugby club.

• Scheduled time each month for CREATIVEFOLKS to keep the campaign updated.
