Ngā mihi mahana ki a koutou katoa, warm greetings to you all! At last! Students have the chance to break free of some of the restrictive habits picked up during our lockdown, and they’re embracing the opportunities. Sports teams are busy enjoying the chance to train, build teamwork and compete against their peers. We have had a tramping group explore Stewart Island last week. Huge numbers of students are participating in Wednesday Snowsports - more than we’ve had for some time. Competitive academic teams have tested their mettle against other schools. Students are engaged with a range of field trips. Guest speakers are again active in visiting our students. Last, but not least our Prom is being held next Friday - preparations are nearing completion! It seems strange to be excitedly celebrating the events that we normally take for granted. So, we hope that you enjoy this newsletter and the snapshots of a few of our Three Day Learning Event activities. Make sure that you too are taking advantage of the opportunities available to us while this awesome warm weather lasts.
Ka kite anō au i a koutou! Jason Reid

Student Planners Student Planners—This Fortnight
The manufacturer of your children’s planners produces some items for parents to consider as they help their child make good use of their planner. Here is an item that relates to what’s in the planners over the coming fortnight:
To live a fulfilling and meaningful life, it is important for students to learn how to apologise to others they have upset or done the wrong thing by. Similarly, when the shoe is on the other foot, they need to be prepared to forgive others who have upset them. And, also it will benefit their own wellbeing when they forgive themselves for silly things they have done.
It is amazing how much emotional energy gets used up every day by people holding grudges. In some ways this situation is quite understandable, because it takes a considerable amount of courage to open our hearts to say sorry or forgive others who have upset us. The issue can be that others may not be prepared to accept our apology and forgive us, and that’s where courage comes in.
Making the effort to at least try, will lift a load off our shoulders. And to do this, students will have to use strengths to their fullest. While many students know about and talk about their strengths, they don’t often use them. Apologising and forgiving are ideal opportunities for students to consciously and deliberately practise using them, and from this comes personal growth.
Whole School Conferencing On Thursday September 17 from 10am to 5pm we will be trialing whole school conferencing.
As all staff members have been allocated interviews, normal lessons will not be running that day. Stu-dents are only in attendance for their interview. Each conference will be 15 minutes The 3-way learning conferences for each student with their caregivers and teachers are a main part of our reporting to you in Term 3. The focus at this time of the year is on how the student is managing their learning. The reason we do this, is to support students to develop as effective and independent learners. Our expectation is that students will accompany their parents/caregivers to the Learning Con-ference with their staff mentor. Full written reports for all students will be issued on Tuesday 15 September. Please bring these to the conferencing with you. If you have any questions please contact school. Denise Dooley
