Principal for a Day On Friday 21st July, Brighton Primary School held a very successful Trivia Night, organised by the
Friends of Brighton (FOB). One of the prizes up for auction was ‘Principal for the Day’. The lucky
winners this year were Ashley, Tristan and Lachlan Allamby.
Ashley, Tristan and Lachlan enjoyed coming to school in their ‘professional clothes’. Ashley
proudly wore her best corporate jacket with her red floral dress. Tristan and Lachlan wore
classic black and white with red ties.
On the day, our ‘Principals for the Day’ parked in Ms. Lawrence’s car parking spot. They were
presented with the keys to the school and certificates of appreciation at Monday morning
assembly. Their first task as principals was to hand out the PYP awards to students at assembly.
On their way back from assembly, ‘The Principals’ met Mr. Binns and found out what
maintenance jobs needed to be done for the day. After enjoying snacks from the canteen at
recess time, Ashley, Tristan and Lachlan escorted the Story Dog to the library. Later that
morning, ‘The Principals’ made a conference call to the principal of Sandringham Primary School
to get advice about procedures for the lockdown drill.
The ‘Principals for the Day’ ate their lunch in the staffroom. They ate, laughed and told jokes
from their joke book with other staff members.
Tristan said that he enjoyed reading the names at assembly and that it made him happy because
he was in charge of all the students that day. Tristan also loved making the announcement over
the loud speaker to remind the gate monitors to open the gates. Later on in the day, he also
made another announcement to remind the integration aides that there was a meeting in the
staffroom. At the meeting, the ‘Principals’ commended the aides on their excellent work.
Ashley explained that the most exciting part of the day for her was when she walked down to
the canteen and ordered whatever food she wanted for recess and lunch. Ashley took pleasure
in making the announcement over the loud speaker, reminding the students to place their
rubbish in the bins when they were out in the playground at lunchtime. Later in the day, Ashley
made another announcement reminding the Grade 4 students that there was a camp meeting.

Lachlan appreciated going around the school with a checklist and clipboard to make sure that there were no safety hazards around
the school. He enjoyed going into classrooms to remind the students the importance of hanging up bags on hooks so that people
don’t trip on them. Lachlan also enjoyed calling the lockdown drill after lunch and welcoming back the Grade 3 and 4 students on
their return from the Hoop Time excursion.
Ashley, Tristan and Lachlan said they had a fantastic day and would love to do it again. They have placed their certificates on their
bedroom walls to remind them of the important job they did and all the fun they had on the day.
The students would like to say thank you to FOB for organising the Trivia night and thank you to the staff at Brighton Primary for
making them feel so welcome and making the day so much fun.

MONDAY MORNING ASSEMBLY
28th August 2017
Parents are welcome to attend our Monday morning assemblies at 9.00am in the Gym.
Healesville Sanctuary
Grade One went to Healesville Sanctuary on 9th August as part of our inquiry into the theme ‘Sharing the
Planet’. It was a fun filled day and we had some great experiences! We had the opportunity to interact with
native Australian wildlife in a beautiful bushland setting. The Sanctuary is committed to fighting wildlife
extinction and the children had some up close experiences with some of our endangered animals. A highlight
of the day was the amazing ‘Spirits of the sky’ show where we had majestic birds of prey and magnificent
parrots flying right over our heads! Hope you enjoy some of the photos taken on the day.
Congratulations to the BPS Boys Soccer Team who this season
have won 16 games in a row! In the coming weeks they will compete in
the State Finals and we wish them all the best on this exciting day.
