Haddonstone – the UK’s leading manufacturer of finecast stone garden ornaments –has used its skills to decorate alion for the forthcoming‘Pride of Northampton’festival organisedby Northampton BoroughCouncil. The lion is nowprowling Haddonstone’s East Haddon show gardens!

Northampton Borough Councilprovided a large lion forHaddonstone to decorate.Haddonstone’s design, whichhas been named ‘The Lion, theObelisk and the Landscape’,was created by Simon Helm.Formerly a freelance trompel’oeil artist with commercial commissions in Istanbul,London and Paris, Simon joinedHaddonstone in 1988 and is Studio Manager, based at Haddonstone’s manufactory in Brixworth. Haddonstone’s lion has been inspired by the architecture and landscape ofNorthampton and the surrounding countryside. The mane shows colours of the county’s stone which reaches out into the green landscape. Northamptonshire is renowned for itsspires and squires whose stately gardens are represented by the obelisk which wasonce a prominent feature of the town’s Market Square.

Haddonstone’s lion will join the full pride of lions in Northampton town centre in June–each being placed on a pedestal specifically created by Haddonstone.
