• Havana is one of the finest historical centers in Latin America.

• Dire need to record, preserve, and monitor historic structures:

• Old Havana is an UNESCO World Heritage site.

• There are 3,000 historic structures in Old Havana alone.

The KinectA 3D Natural Interface (NI)device.

Made of:l 1 RGB camera (like a webcam)l 2 infrared sensors that use stereoscopic imaging to interpret depth.

l 4 microphone array that can interpret depth and location by sound.

The Kinect is designed for interface development that does not use physical buttons or other mechanical apparatus to interface with a machine.

Depth InformationIt starts with depth.l Kinect projects out a 3x3 infrared grid and calculates depth based on numbers returned.

What happens next depends on software...

Kinect – Skeletal TrackingSkeletal tracking allows the

Kinect to map a person's movements to a skeletal rig in a 3D model. There are different skeletal tracking options.

For this project, we were able to find an open-source solution that used OpenNI, and PrimeSense's NiTE skeletal viewer (with an educational license provided.)

This allowed us to rig up the model's with skeletons.
