This biogeochemical cycle shows the movement of phosphorus through the atmosphere. Phosphorus mainly cycles through water, soil and sediments. It can be found in the atmosphere as very small dust particles.
phosphate in oceanic sediments uplifting over time sedimentary rocks rain falls (via weathering) phosphates
separate from rocks phosphates distributed to soil and water plants take up phosphate ions animals eat the plants phosphates absorbed by animal tissue
returns to soil through excretion of wastes and decomposition of decaying animals
1. weathering of the rocks
2. phosphates in soil
3. plants
4. herbivores & carnivores
5. phosphorus as waste product
