Pharmacoeconomic guidelines for Portugal

Guidelines for the conduct of pharmacoeconomic studies have been published in Portugal, reports Scrip.

They were developed by an expert panel following the publication of new legislation in Portugal allowing health authorities to request pharmacoeconomics studies from drug companies for the reimbursement of new medicines. The guidelines provide a model format for economic evaluations as well as recommendations regarding: analysis techniques, data use, evaluation of therapeutic efficacy, cost measurement, time frames, populations and reference products. They were made public in December 1998 at a meeting organised by the Health Ministry and the pharmacy and medicine institute Infarmed. Portugal iswes cost-benefit guidelines.
