Personality represents the sum total of several attributes which manifest themselves in an individual , ability of the individual to organize and integrate all the qualities so as to give meaning to life , and the uniqueness of the situation which influences behavior of an individual.

Definition

According to Fred Luthans ” Personality means how a person affects others & how he understands & views himself as well as the pattern of inner & outer measurable traits and the person-situation interaction”.

Bonner provides 6 propositions to classify the nature of personality within the context of change & development .

Human behaviour is composed of acts.

Personality visualized as a whole actualises itself in a particular environment.

It is distinguished by self consistency.

It forms a time-integrating structure.

It is a goal oriented behaviour.

It is a process of becoming.

HeredityHeredity plays an important role in determining an individual’s personality. We generally refer to the traits like physique , intelligence etc...the importance of heredity varies from one personality trait to another. if all personality traits are determined by heredity , they would not be changed through out the life.

EnvironmentEnvironment also plays a very important role in the development of personality of a person .Environment comprises Culture Family Social Situational Factors

Culture It is a unique system of perceptions ,beliefs ,values ,norms and code of conduct the influences the behaviour of individuals in a given society.

FamilyFamily Influence the behaviour of a person in the early stages. The nature of such influence will depend upon the factors like family size , race , religion ,parent’s educational level etc..

SocialContacts with the others of the family and social groups influence his socialisation process. It includes school mates, friends ,colleagues etc..

SituationalEvery individual goes through different type of experiences & events in his life. some events and experiences can serve as important determinants of his personality.

Introvert

Persons with introvert orientation are primarily oriented to the subjective world. such people look inward & experience & process their thoughts & ideas within themselves. they also avoid social contacts & initiating interactions with others

ExtrovertExtroverts are just contrary to introverts. Extroverts are friendly ,lively , sociable , aggressive and express their feeling and ideas open .They are more suitable and successful for the positions that require considerable interaction with others ..

Extrovert Introvert

• Like variety and action.

• Like to have people around.

• Usually communicate freely.

• Often act quickly sometimes without thinking.

• Like quite for concentration.

• Work contentedly alone.

• Problems in communicating.

• Think a lot before they act something.

Type A & Type B Type AThey are characterised by hardworking ,aggressive high achievement oriented , impatient have a sense of time urgency with competitive drive etc… They tend to be very hard working and productive. They are work holics.

Type B

Easy going , sociable , free from urgency of time & non competitive are the characteristics of type B. such people do better on tasks involving judgments , accuracy rather than speed and teamwork.

Judging & perspectiveJudgingPeople with judging personality types like to follow a plan, make decisions & need only that what is essential for their work.

PerspectiveThey are people who adopt were to change ,want to know all about a job and at time may get over committed.
