“we seem to become so pre-occupiedwith covering the content of whichever syllabus we use, that essay-writing becomes,at best, an afterthought and, at worst, omitted almost entirely.”

“they may be unaware of how much research and effort should go into coursework, and may leave work until the last minute and then panic when faced with an imminent deadline”

CONSTRUCTION

EMOTIONS

Creative approaches to formal essay writing: Sarah Pavey: LILAC 20/4/2011

You may not know what the finished product will look like

You may start at any point

You cannot cheat by looking at someone else’s work!

You have to work on your own to complete it, although you

might accept advice from others

You may try to place a piece in one space but perhaps it actually fits somewhere

elseAs you complete it, it will start to make sense

Creative approaches to formal essay writing: Sarah Pavey: LILAC 20/4/2011

It may seem too difficult at the

start

You may feel excited at the

start

You will feel a sense of

achievement as you complete

sections

You may feel frustrated when pieces do not fit

If others seem to be making more progress you may feel like giving up

You may feel angry if you

don’t meet the deadline

As you do more you will get really involved and keen to see the
