Message from the Executive Director
And just like that, Summer is gone… but not the FUN! Last month, we had our amazing day at Camp Trillium. This day gave everyone a chance to explore the outdoors, have a few laughs, and eat some great food. And sleep in a bunk bed for the first time! It was great to see the camaraderie amongst all the residents, families, volunteers, and team members. I am looking forward to seeing what next year’s event brings! There are lots of events this month! We have our Western Themed Week. There are many events planned, but look out for Dress Up day and Wieners and Beans Lunch on the 4th! On October 9th, we have the outing for the Norfolk County Fair. It will be Oktoberfest lunch on October 17. As the month rounds out, we will be having Halloween dress up, jack o’ lantern carving, and door decorating. Look out for details. It is with a heavy heart that the Home is informing all residents, family members, and team members of the passing last month of our social worker, Alison Johnston. Delhi LTC is grateful for the compassion and advocacy Alison provided for our residents. She will be missed. With the cold weather coming, so does the warm clothing. As you bring in new clothing, please ensure that it is sent to laundry in a labeled bag so that it can be labeled properly. Also, as you go through your closets, discard clothing that is no longer used. It will help with the purge that occurs with spring cleaning. Thank you for your cooperation. As we all know, Delhi has great employees. It is a great gesture to provide a gift of appreciation for an employee for going above and beyond in providing care to your loved one. But we are a team! An employee is not permitted to accept an individual gift, whether material or money/gift card. If you would like to still give a gift, please make it something that the employees can share. You can always approach me to ask if I have any suggestions or how we can best show appreciation to the team. Thank you for your cooperation. Have a great month! Danny Pereira
Upcoming Events
Norfolk County Fair Outing Wednesday October 9th
The bus will be picking us up at 10 and we will be returning by 2:30. Please let us know if you would like
your loved one to go, as space on the bus is limited. If you are able to volunteer for the day, let us know as well! One to One support is required for this
outing
Oktoberfest Lunch Thursday, October 17th
We have ordered Cabbage rolls and chicken from the Hungarian Hall for the residents for lunch.
German beer will be available as well! They look forward to this
luncheon each year!
Federal Election
October 21st
We are having a mobile poll here at the home for residents to vote. Staff and volunteers will be
here to assist residents, as they need. The poll will
be open from 1:30 to 4pm
Halloween Festivities Halloween is a busy time of year! We have
activities planned like, jack-o-lantern carving, bagging candy, door decorating for staff and
more! We encourage both staff and residents to dress up. If you have a costume for your loved one to wear, please bring it in and let us know.
We will also be handing out candy on Halloween to any trick or treaters that come by. Bring
your children and grandchildren by for some candy!
See the Calendar for a full listing of all events!

Why Getting the Flu Shot Matters This year more than ever before
Every autumn we hear the same message: Get the Flu Shot! And every year too many of us do not. Some think “oh I never get sick.” Others question the effectiveness of the vaccine. But did you know that statistics show one flu shot can save up to 8 lives?! That’s because when we get our flu shot, not only do we protect ourselves from getting sick (or at least reduce the severity of symptoms if we do get the flu), we also help stop the spread of the virus to others. This includes seniors, children, and anyone with chronic health conditions that puts them at increased risk for serious complications – or even death – from the flu. Based on the experience of countries in the southern hemisphere, where flu season occurs earlier than here in Canada, experts are warning our upcoming flu season could be a rough one. In fact, Australia’s flu season started early this year and was the worst on record: 254,000 confirmed cases as of mid-September, with 587 deaths, the majority of which were elderly people. By comparison, in 2018 there were only 52,000 confirmed cases and 73 deaths. Seems getting our flu shot this year is more important than ever. Throughout October, residents and staff will receive their flu shot at the Home, supporting our goal to improve the immunization rates at every peopleCare Home. Families, volunteers and other visitors have lots of convenient options for getting their shot including local pharmacies and Public Health flu shot clinics (watch our bulletin boards for dates, times and locations). Flu viruses spread quickly through coughing, sneezing and touching contaminated surfaces like doorknobs or unwashed hands. So, in addition to getting your flu shot, you can also easily help reduce the spread of influenza and other viruses like colds if you:
Wash your hands often with soap and warm water, or use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer
Cough and sneeze into your sleeve or a tissue that you use only once before discarding
Postpone visiting the Home if you are sick, or wear a mask if you feel unwell This year, join us in staying healthy and stopping the spread of influenza – get your flu shot. Do it for us all!

Thank you for all you do!
Thank you!
Thank you to everyone who donated their items and their time to help out with our yard sale! It was a great success and helped fund our trip to Camp Trillium for the residents! Special Thanks to Randy and Carrie Marshall who escorted our King and Queen through the Fall fest parade in Delhi. The residents loved seeing them in the parade and a great time was had by the King and Queen. Thank you to all of the volunteers who helped with our day away at Camp! The day was rewarding for residents, volunteers and staff. This day would have not been possible without each and every one of you! The residents can’t wait to go back next year! FYI There was a Men’s Ring found in the parking lot of the Home. If you have lost one, please come to the nursing station and describe it for us. We hope we are able to find the owner
