MY POINTS OF VIEW

Every horse requires

an individual

approach to the care

of its hooves.

NOT EVERY HORSE IS COMFORTABLE BARE

FOOTED, SOME NEED SHOES TO BE

COMFORTABLE.

In the situation where a horse shows signs of

any physical discomfort, assess its feet

thoroughly first.

Treating a horses’ feet is not only a physical

skill and trade, but it requires common sense

and thought.

The most common lamenesses in horses can

be solved with appropriate hoof care.

Too many horses have been unnecessarily

euthanased, slaughtered, retired or sold

cheaply due to the lack of appropriate hoof

care.

Be aware, the inappropriate choice of

hoof care will have a negative impact on

the horses’ wellbeing, wether it be

shoeing or other forms of alternative

hoof care.

An experienced farrier can anticipate to

common lamenesses and prevents

discomfort, not waiting until discomfort

occurs.

You not have to be an

Einstein.

Veterinary students (also many farriers)

should be given more opportunity to

practice and be thoroughly educated in

this specialised field.

The farrier has to recapture his lost

position when it comes to maintain

comfortable horses.
