★ Students are allowed to enter the building at 7:10 am, and are allowed to

★ Breakfast is served from 7:20-7:40 am. During this time, students are
also unpacking in preparation for the day. All binders, pencil boxes,
Communicators, and folders should be at their desks. Pencils should be
sharpened and any Morning Work should begin.

Procedures & Expectations
★ Students are expected to model the PRIDE CODE OF CONDUCT and follow
the PBIS expectations throughout the entire building, including the
Cafeteria, Playground, and on the Bus.
★ Students who ride the bus are under a Three Strikes Policy: students have
three reported incidences on the bus before they are no longer allowed to
ride. This procedure is in place to ensure the safety of all students
traveling to and from school, as well as the driver who is transporting our
most precious cargo.
Procedures & Expectations
★ Behavior will be monitored using Class Dojo for both Homerooms. Information
for both classes is now available, as both teachers have been successfully
added.
★ You may send messages through Dojo or via email for either teacher. Please
allow up to 24 hours for a response.
★ Transportation notes must be written and sent in to the Front Office before
noon each day. If there is an emergency and you have to send a change
through Dojo, please call the school to follow up immediately. Calls and
emails will not be accepted this year per Administrative request.
ELA and Social Studies
★ Fifth Grade ELA [English Language Arts] will be integrated with Social
Studies in order to focus on Literacy through Content Area.
★ Students will have the opportunity to demonstrate mastery of ELA skills
through Social Studies informational text and realistic/historical fiction
narratives.
★ The main focus and objective is to learn how to utilize these skills and
strategies for understanding a variety of text through relevant content in
preparation for post-elementary study.
ELA and Social Studies
★ We will spend the school year focusing on the TESTED SEVEN. These are the
seven skills students will be responsible for on the End of Grade Tests, as well
as throughout their continuing education. These are:
1. Main Idea & Details
2. Compare & Contrast
3. Text Features
4. Sequence
5. Inference
6. Cause & Effect
7. Fact & Opinion
ELA and Social Studies
★ In addition, students will continue to develop their Writing skills daily
through a variety of writing prompts and lessons designed to improve fluency
and writing across curriculum.
★ Fifth Grade will also be the pilot group for AVID Elementary! AVID, which is
Advancement Via Individual Determination, focuses on organization skills and
strategies designed to prepare ALL students for college and post-secondary
education! We will focus on these organization skills in class through binders
and note-taking strategies!
Mathematics
★ Fifth Grade Math will be integrate a focus on Literacy through Content Area.
After each lesson, students will have a writing prompt to explain their
thinking from the lesson in their Writing Journal.
★ Students will keep an organized Math Notebook that will be a useful tool for
studying and completing classwork and homework. These will be interactive,
colorful and useful tools.
Mathematics
★ McGraw Hill Workbooks - these are to be kept at home. They are a great
review for students. I will often send out a Dojo Message telling you which
pages can be used for extra practice for students. They may be able to receive
an extra homework grade or a Pride Ticket if they prove they have done extra
practice
★ Khan Academy
Science
★ Science will be taught in Homeroom each day. Both
teachers plan engaging lessons for students - so no
worries, they’ll have the SAME INFORMATION!
★ Students will be using their Interactive Notebooks to
include colorful note-taking guides designed to increase
retention of information as well as make learning fun.
These notebooks will stay in class, and all other tasks
will be included in the Science section of students’
binders.
