ARTISTS I WILL USE

This unit is about the power of collaboration. Students will learn the importance of working in a group. They will have the freedom to help plan some of the lesson, even assessment criteria. The unit will start by showing lots of different multimedia artists, several installation artists, as well as a few collaborative art groups. Students will discuss all of the above. After the discussion, inform the students that they have a HUGE supply of cardboard, newspaper, old clothes, fabric and other found materials. Challenge them to think of ways they can use all of this material to create a collaborative art installation. Students will brainstorm individually, in small groups and them as a whole class. Once they successfully decide on a theme or idea, teach them the basics of paper mache. If all goes well, Students will design, create and install a paper mache installation inspired by the artists Red Grooms, Benny Andrews, Jessica Jackson Hutchins, Saulo Moreno, Melanie Bourlon, James Dive, Zimoun, Kusama Yayoi, Barbara Kruger and 3 art groups: The factory, Ruckus Construction Co. & The Glue Society.

My goals:-Teach the power of col laborati on.-Show students how learning to work wel l with others wi l l help them in the

future. - Introduce students to the wonderful world of paper mache art.- Introduce students to instal lati on art.-Engage students in a col laborati ve dialog to plan and create a paper mache instal lati on with found materials.

PROJECT ONE:We will watch these two documentaries and a power point detailing the rest of the unit. I

will then give them the HUGE pile of found materials I recently acquired and challenge them to design and create an installation inspired by all of the artists introduced.
