CASINO

•When the government wanted to built the casino at Marina Bay Sands, many people were against it. •However, the government knew that building a casino will boost Singapore’s economy and be beneficial in the long run. Thus, the government made the right decision for the country and continued building the casino. •The government displayed the first principle of governance, Leadership is Key.• Good leaders have to make right decisions for the country and good leaders do what is right and not what is popular.

CLIFFORD PIER

• Built in 1993, Clifford Pier was a landing point for immigrants and sea passengers.

• Now, Clifford Pier has been developed into a retail, leisure, entertainment and hotel centre.

• The government anticipated that in the 21st century, Singapore will have to become more competitive and thus, decided to develop Clifford Pier into an attraction.

• This change is important for Singapore especially in the 21st century because it attracts many tourists and foreign investors to Singapore. This will in turn boost Singapore’s economy.

• The government displayed the second principle of government, Anticipate Change and Stay Relevant.

• A good leader has to be forward looking and has to be willing to take risks.

BREEZE SHELTERS

•The breeze shelters provide a cool place for people to relax. It includes a motion sensor that activates the fan only when someone is standing under it. This helps to maximise the conservation of energy. •As natural resources like coal and fuel are very expensive and limited, the government cannot rely on them. Thus, the government makes use of solar power to run the fans. •In this case, it links to the second principle of governance, Anticipating Change and Stay Relevant. •Singapore has to open up to new ideas like the natural energy technology. Thus, the government made use of solar energy to run these breeze shelters.

Thus, the government built the Marina Bay Link Mall as an underground shopping mall. •This helps to conserve the limited space in Singapore for other buildings. •Building the Marina Bay Link Mall creates more job opportunities for Singaporeans. •This displays the third principle of governance, A Stake for Everyone, Opportunities for All.•Decisions are made for the needs of the nation. The Marina Bay Link Mall was built to create more jobs to prevent unemployment in Singapore.
