Richard Kopp Scholarship
Description/Criteria: The Professor Richard R. Kopp Scholarship for Metaphor and Change in Psychotherapy focuses on creative use of client-generated metaphors in psychotherapy. There are three broad categories/selection criteria: 1. Commitment to academic excellence, as demonstrated by a GPA of at least 3.5. 2. Demonstrated understanding and commitment to the ideas reflected in Professor Richard R. Kopp's book, Metaphor Therapy: Using Client-Generated Metaphors in Psychotherapy, as reflected in an essay on how those ideas have stimulated your personal and professional growth; 3. Examples, in the form of an essay, of how you have used client-generated metaphors as an intervention technique in psychotherapy and how, by helping clients identify and explore their own metaphors, you have been able to stimulate their positive growth and change. Examples might include how you helped a client explore and transform his or her metaphoric language and/or how you helped a client explore and transform an early memory metaphor. Examples should include a thoughtful discussion of the client growth and change that was fostered through the use of client-generated metaphor. Application Process:

Ferne Miller Memorial Research Scholarship
Description/Criteria: Originally, this scholarship was for students conducting research in the area of psychosocial oncology, including projects that study how psychological and environmental factors may affect the etiology, disease course and adaptation to cancer and other terminal diseases. However, in recent years the Miller Family has decided to broaden the focus to support dissertations across the spectrum of clinical psychology. To be eligible for this scholarship you must have advanced to doctoral candidacy.

Paul Werner Dissertation Award Honoring Innovation and Creativity
Description/Criteria:
Given at Commencement to recognize the clinical PhD dissertation of Alliant’s San Francisco campus that best exemplifies the emphasis on innovative and creative research that CSPP-SF Professor Emeritus Dr. Paul Werner fostered in his work with dissertation students.
Dissertation completed within the past year that has been judged to be exceptionally original, innovative, and creative in its conception and/or method, for example through introduction and testing or application of new and original concepts, and methods.
