Initial Window
Use RMB (Right mouse button) -> Rename over the Project name title
“Project1” , then on Design name title “Simplorer1” to rename them.
– Note the “ * ” will appear meaning something has changed and user needs
to save.

Adding Components
Insert components via the “Component Manager” window
– Expand folders to select the desired part, drag it into the schematic window
(note insert mode).
– Once on schematic, double click on the part to bring up the properties
window.

Adding Components Cont’d
A second type of property window is also available. This is selected by
placing the mouse over the part, then RMB -> properties.
– Note this is the same one that is found in the “Properties” window in the UI
– Note to display more tab options, use menu tools/options/schematic editor
options and select “Show advanced property data”
– Note the “info” button under the “Parameter Values” tab for Help on the
part or can RMB over component to bring up menu for Component Help

Adding Components Cont’d
The user can add components to the “Favorites” section in the
Component Manager window to be readily available in the future.
– This is done by selecting the component in the Component Manager, then
RMB -> add to favorites.

Define Outputs
Once the schematic is finished, the user can define the desired outputs
(waveforms) to save to the database file and view after simulation.
– Select from the menu (Simplorer Circuit -> Output Dialog) to bring up the
dialog window which allows the user to choose desired signals.
– Note the filter boxes, Collapse All, etc

Simplorer GUI
Schematic Window
• Schematic window enables users to view and interact with the circuit/system
dynamically.
• The view in the Schematic window can be manipulated either using RMB ->
menu or Mouse-keyboard keys
• Top level Menu Icons are also available for these functions
Additional Mouse Commands for View Manipulation
• Dynamic Zoom: hold down the SHIFT+ALT keys, hold down Left Mouse button,
and move mouse to zoom in/out
• Dynamic Pan: hold down the SHIFT key only, hold down Left Mouse button,
and move mouse to pan in any direction

Set Up Simulation
Add Simulation set up by placing mouse over “Analysis” In the Project
Manager window and using the RMB To bring up the selections
© 2014 ANSYS, Inc. 21 Simplorer v2014
Simulate the Design
To simulate the design, use the RMB over “Analysis” in the project
manager window, then select “Analyze”.
– Or select desired Simulation at the top pull down menu, and select blue icon
– Note the lower windows will show the status of the simulation

View Results (Reports)
To view the results, use the RMB over “Results” in the project manager
window to create several types of plots.
– Select the desired signals and select “new report”. This will display the
waveform

View Plots on Schematic
Plots can also be placed on the schematic with menu (Draw -> Report ->
type) and placing it in the schematic.
– Double click on the plot to bring up the selection of signals
– Note because signals are based on which analysis is performed, “Analysis”
setup must be defined in order to enable selection of signals

Adjusting Plot View
The way plots are displayed can be change depending on preference.
Note here we show the display of the Header title instead of Legend
© 2014 ANSYS, Inc. 25 Simplorer v2014
Adjusting Plot View Cont’d
Note the Plot View can be Edited in the Project Manager window or on
the schematic by selecting it, RMB -> Edit in place.
– For example to change the x-axis, select the axis, then in the Properties
window in the lower left, can specify range under the “Scaling” tab

Viewing Results (walking waveforms)
Can set up the viewing of results in the plots several ways
1) show results only after simulation is done - speeds up simulation
(Tools -> Options -> Simplorer Options)
unselect Update reports during simulation
2) update the plots during the simulation to view whats happening
(Simplorer Circuit -> Results -> update all reports)
3) have the waveforms displayed as the simulation runs - may slow
down simulation
(Tools -> Options -> Simplorer Options)
select Update reports during simulation

Project Notes
Notes on installed examples for the different library components
• RMB (over part) -> Load Example (this will load the example as a new project)
• Should “save as” this project to a local directory and different name
• Care should be taken when removing projects
– if chose “delete” it will remove the project from the hard drive.
– If simply want to remove a project from the project manager, use “close”
instead so it wont be deleted from the hard drive completely
