‘Ladli Beti’ to create positive environment for girl child: Ganga

SAMBA, Oct 12: The state-sponsored social assistancescheme 'Ladli Beti' will posi-tively change the mindsets ofthe people for improving thechild sex ratio and empower-ment of the girl child.

This was stated by theMinister for Industries &Commerce Chander PrakashGanga today after inauguratingthe Social Welfare Centre forcutting and tailoring at villageGadwal in tehsil Vijaypur.

The Minister said that thescheme has been launched tocreate a positive dispositiontowards the girl child. "It aimsto reverse the declining childsex ratio and emphasizes on lay-ing a firm foundation for girls'future through improvement intheir educational and economicstatus and to bring about a posi-tive change in social attitudetowards birth of a girl" he saidand urged upon the people toenroll their daughters under the'Ladli Beti' scheme so that thefuture of the girls would besecured.

He said Central as well asState Government has launchedseveral welfare schemes for theupliftment of downtrodden peo-ple and the Department ofSocial Welfare has been giveninstructions to cover all thedeserving beneficiaries underthese benefits to change theirsocio-economic profile. He saidthe Department will providethese facilities to the poor peo-ple at their doorsteps by organ-izing special camps in the ruraland far-flung areas.

It is pertinent to mentionhere that the Ladli Beti schemewould be implemented in sixdistricts of the state with skewedsex ratios including Kathua,

Jammu, Samba, Budgam,Pulwama and Anantnag.

The District Social WelfareOfficer Samba, MushtaqChoudhary also highlighted var-ious schemes launched by thedepartment and stressed uponthe people to avail their benefits.

The Minister after givingpatient hearing to the issuesraised by the villagers assuredthem for the early redressal oftheir problems .

Earlier, the Ministerlaunched the developmentworks of lane and drain amount-ing to Rs. 11 lakh in the village.He also urged the unemployedyouth of the village to getenrolled in MGNREGA.

ReT teachers protest highlightingtheir demands, grievances

JAMMU, Oct 12: To high-light their demands and griev-ances, Rehbar-e-Taleem teach-ers held a strong protest demon-

stration in front of theDirectorate of School Educationcomplex, here today.

A large number of ReTsfrom all the districts participatedin a day long protest demonstra-tion, which was held under thebanners of All J&K ReT Teacher

Forum and led by State presi-dent Vinod Sharma.

While addressing the gather-ing, Vinod Sharma lambastedthe State Government and theEducation Department for their

biased approach towards ReTfraternity. He said that regular-ization of ReTs, who have com-pleted 5 years service one andhalf years back, is still pendingand they are harassed on thename of verification where asthe court has ordered only toverify the Degrees issued by

Tuk shops/Fake Universities. Adding that verification and

regularization can be donesimultaneously, he furtheralleged that the department haseven failed to streamline thesalary of SSA Teachers, which ispending for the last 4 to 6months. Similarly, KGBVTeachers are also still waitingfor their regularization despitethe assurances of theGovernment in this regard, headded.

Vinod Sharma also demand-ed immediate revocation oforder which debarred the regu-larized ReTs from Board Examsduties. He said that ReTs havebeen performing highly sensi-tive duties like Election Duty,Census Duty, BLO Duty butthey are exempted from examsduties which is clear injusticeand which can not tolerated anymore. He also asked theGovernment to implement theHigh Court order to transfer theregularized ReTs.

State general secretary ofthe ReT Forum, Najam Jafri,warned that in case their allgrievances are not addressed onpriority basis, they would holdState wide protest on the open-ing of annual Darbar at Jammufor which the Governmentwould be responsible.

Tech Mahindra, LPU to launchindustry specific joint programs

JALANDHAR, Oct 12:Striving to bridge gap betweenIndustry and Academia, TechMahindra (Tech M) and LovelyProfessional University (LPU)have collaborated for offeringindustry specific programs.

These programs are to bespecially designed for LPU BTech/ M Tech students as co-branded programs. So, LPU stu-dents are now to get industryrequisite training right fromDay-1 of joining these programs.For this, Tech Mahindra hasstepped with illustrated 'CampusConnect' initiative. As per MoU,both the partners will also workto enhance employability andselection of students.

Creating a center of excel-lence, Tech Mahindra & LPUwill jointly enrich knowledge ofLPU students, faculty and TechMahindra employees. Promotingupcoming technologies, bothcollaborators will also conceptu-alize research projects on needbasis. The principal technicaland research areas are aroundcontemporary computing tech-nology areas. For this, primaryactivities will include capability,curriculum and required skillsdevelopment. Training for for-eign language courses, includingSpanish, Mandarin, French,

German, will also be providedalong with UniversityCurriculum.

Tech Mahindra CentreCouncil Head, TarunpreetSingh further, informed aboutthe training schedule: "Wewould like to focus on freshertraining program in two steps. Inthe first year after the campusselection, the selected studentscan complete a special elective'Foundation'. After this, anothercourse termed as 'advanced' willbe taught in 8th semester."

Mr Singh also elaborated that'Elective' can also be taught inthird year to all those studentswho would like to sit in IT indus-try campus placement. Itsadvanced form can spread acrossfull 4th year of the program.

Convention on ‘SaveReservation’ held

DODA, Oct 12: A one dayconvention on ‘SaveReservation’ was held at ChenabValley Head Quarters Doda byAll India Confederation ofSC/ST/OBC Organizations UnitDoda.

The convention was presidedover by District president of theconfederation, Amar NathBhagat in which a large numberof people from SC, ST, OBC andRBA categories belonging toDoda, Bhaderwah, Thathri,Bhalessa, Kishtwar, Kastigarh,Assar, Batote and Ramban par-ticipated.

State president, RK Kalsotraaccompanied by StateCoordinator, Piar Bhagat andFinance Secretary, HarbansLoach was also present on theoccasion.

RK Kalsotra, who was thechief guest, while addressing thegathering said that the ReservedCategories always suffer due tothe anti- SC/ST/OBC policies ofthe Government and vestedinterests in the bureaucracy cre-ate crisis for these communitiestime and again which forces the

people to come on roads. He further said that in the lat-

SAMBA Oct 12: In order tobring the Police-public relationsto new heights as well as to keepcheck on crime in Samba town,a joint social youth group calledCrime Patrol Samba having its94 members from District PoliceSamba and media persons/vol-unteers, got installed six CCTVcameras at all the strategic loca-tions of Samba town.

The CC TVs were installedat Samba Chowk, Bus StandSumb, Hari Singh Chowk,Chohata Chowk, district CourtsComplex Samba andGovernment Girls HigherSecondary School Samba, hav-ing their Control Station atPolice Control Room function-ing from the building of PoliceStation Samba.

All these CCTV Cameraswere inaugurated today byJoginder Singh, SSP Samba inthe presence of Pawan SharmaADC Samba, Varinder SinghDySP HQ Samba, NeerajKumar DySP OperationsSamba, Kulbhushan SharmaCPO Samba, Inspector SanjeevChib, SHO P/S Samba. TheseCCTV Cameras have been gotinstalled by contributing amountby all the 94 Members fromDistrict Police Samba andMedia Persons/Volunteers.

The Social Youth Groupalso takes the responsibility ofthe maintenance of the Schoolbuilding like white wash, fenc-ing, providing of ceiling fans,renovation of bathrooms etc.

It is worthwhile to mentionhere that one month back, thesaid Joint Social Youth Grouptook an initiative to repair andblack-top the NHW from SambaChowk to Dhiani where deeppits were developed resultinginto fatal road accidents.Moreover, the Group is alsoactive in Cleanliness drive inhospitals as well as other publicplaces, drives against drug abuseetc and accordingly their worksare being applauded by the gen-eral public in large. Rajesh releases Rs 20 lakh forbeautification of Dogra Chowk

JAMMU, Oct 12: A functionwas organized today at PanditPrem Nath Dogra Chowk heretoday for upgradation and beau-tification of the statue of PanditPrem Nath Dogra and also toupgrade the park around it. The

function was inaugurated byBJP general secretary (Org)Ashok Koul who was the chiefguest on the occasion and MLAJammu East Rajesh Gupta.

Rajesh Gupta on the occa-sion announced Rs 20 lakh fromhis C.D.F as the first installmenttowards the up gradation andbeautification of the project. Theoverall cost of the project is esti-mated about Rs 30 lakhs. ThePandit Prem Nath Dogra circleat Jewel Chowk is situated atone of the most prominent placein the City of Temples and hasbeen venue for the launch of themany political movements. Theplace is also used for organisingsocial and cultural events.

The place has special signif-icance in the political journey ofthe State and as a result thebeautification of the circle is

most appropriate. The work hasbeen undertaken on the initiativeof Deputy Chief Minister, Dr.Nirmal Singh. He has also giveninstruction to complete the proj-ect with in the right time andspace and also ensure qualityworkmanship.

Constable booked for cheating SPOExcelsior Correspondent

JAMMU, Oct 12: CrimeBranch Jammu today registeredFIR against constable ManzoorAhmed, who duped innocentSpecial Police Officer for con-verting him to follower/constableby his influence in lieu of money.

According to the SSP CrimeBranch Mubassir Latifi, a com-plaint was forwarded by the IGRailway mentioning that adepartmental enquiry was con-ducted by SP Railways,Kashmir and it was found thatconstable Manzoor Ahmed No.747/GRPK, who was residing ina rented room at BhagwatiNagar, Jammu introduced him-self to one Jewan Lal, son of OmParkash of Dachan as driver toIGP, Jammu Zone and asked himto pay an amount of Rs 55,000for the treatment of his motherand later on when Jewan Laldemanded his money back,Manzoor Ahmed asked JewanLal to pay him some more moneyin lieu of which he will be con-verted from SPO tofollower/constable by his influ-ence.

Manzoor Ahmed also provid-ed an account number 3154 ofJ&K Bank branch RajporaPulwama existing in the name ofone Reyaz Ahmed Wagay ofPulwama in which Jewan Laldeposited Rs 25,000 for gettinghimself regularized as Constablein J&K Police on being alluredby Manzoor Ahmed. However,no such order was passed.

During investigation by theCrime Branch, it transpired thataccused Manzoor Ahmed in con-nivance with Reyaz AhmedWagay and others allured andtook an amount of Rs 80,000from SPO Jewan Lal throughdeceitful means by impersonat-ing himself as driver of IGPJammu Zone.

Accordingly, a case underSections 419, 420, 467, 468, 471,120-B RPC read with Section5(2) PC Act has been registeredagainst him and investigationentrusted to DySP Abdul WahidGiri.

Sambyal, SDPO Vijaypurassisted by SI Rajeshwar Singh,SHO P/S Vijaypur recovered oneBarinder Kumar, 12 S/OGurcharan Mahoto R/o KerwahSukhnandha district GarwahJharkhand who was wanderingnear Railway Station Vijaypur.Before he could get caught up inthe wrong hands, he was broughtin Police Station Vijaypur whereduring thorough questioning, hedisclosed that his father had beat-en him and he ran from his home,boarded the train and reachedVijaypur. Today, the parents of theboy were called from Jharkhandand he was handed over to them.

Man injured in scufflenear Press Club

JAMMU, Oct 12: A man wasinjured in a scuffle that brokeout late last night near the prem-ises of Press Club Jammu after aperson allegedly misbehavedwith a foreigner lady.

According to a policespokesperson two parties hadcome to the Press Club for din-ner late last night and later oneman identified as RakeshNischal of Link Road, Jammu,who is member of the Club,allegedly misbehaved with thewife of a local resident who is aforeigner.

He said that this resulted in ascuffle between the two parties,which continued in the parkingarea of the club, following

which the accused tried to runfrom the spot while the otherparty tried to stop him and inthis process the brother-in-lawof the foreigner lady, who hasbeen identified as Suresh Kumar(45) son of Mohan Singh ofKacchi Chawani, Jammu,received head injury after beinghit by the vehicle of the accused.

The spokesman said that theinjured man was shifted to theGovernment Medical Collegeand Hospital, Jammu for treat-ment from where later he wastaken to a hospital in Ludhianafor advanced treatment.

He said a case in this con-nection has been registered atpolice station Nowabad andinvestigations started. However,no arrests could be made so far.

Successful removal of 1.47 kgtumour in Police Hospital

SRINAGAR, Oct 12: A teamof doctors of Police HospitalSrinagar, comprising of DrIrshad Ahmed Kuchey, DrNahid (Gynaecologist), DrBaljeet (Anaesthesia) and otherteam members successfullyremoved 1.47 kg benign tumourfrom the uterus of female patientLaproscopically, today. This wasthe first surgery of its kind per-formed by the doctors in thehospital.

Giving the details about thesuccessful surgery, MedicalSuperintendent, Police Hospital,Dr Foziya Habib, said, “The sur-gery was performed on patientfrom Kupwara suffering fromtumour of uterus. She said thatearlier the doctors of theHospital had performed severalsuccessful advanced laparoscop-ic surgeries on patients sufferingfrom various diseases. It was amilestone achievement in the

history of Police Hospital con-sidering the size of tumour”.

Dr Foziya said that variousother successful surgeriesincluding Hepaticojejunostomy,open Prostatectomy, HepaticHydatid Cystectomy, total gas-trectomy and advanced laparo-scopic surgeries are being donein the Hospital and now the doc-tors are focusing to achieve suc-cesses in other fields. He laudedthe dedication and expertise ofDr Irshad and Dr Nahid and theteam of para-medics, whoseefforts have brought laurels forthe Hospital.

The Director General ofPolice, K Rajendra Kumar,expressed hope that the abledoctors of Police Hospitalswould continue their efforts tomake successes in the field ofmedical science.

The ADGP (Headquarters),SP Vaid, also visited theHospital enquired from thepatient about her welfare.

Six more test positive for DengueExcelsior Correspondent

JAMMU, Oct 12: Six morecases of Dengue were reported todaytaking the total number of patientssuffering from the vector-borne dis-ease in Jammu region to 72.

"Six persons including threeadults and three children weretoday tested positive for Denguevirus, out of which four belongedto Jammu district while one eachfrom Kathua and Rajouri dis-tricts", Director Health Services(Jammu), Dr BS Pathania said.

“He said out of the threeaffected adults, two are males and

one female. Similarly, out of thethree Dengue affected children,two are male and one female”, headded. However, he said thatmajority of the patients affectedwith the disease who were admit-ted to various hospitals have beendischarged after successful treat-ment.

Dr Pathania advised the peoplenot to store water in open utensilsand allow stagnation of water intheir surroundings, as stagnantwater is a breeding ground forDengue mosquitoes. He alsoadvised the people to preventthemselves from mosquito bites.

On the closing ceremony ofRTI week, Om Prakash,Executive Director, NHPCLimited Jammu, whileaddressing the employees saidthat Right to Information hasbeen recognized as a fundamen-tal right, under which everyonehas been given the right toknow how government works,its role, its functions etc.

He advised the employees touse RTI very judiciously and inits right perspective. ExecutiveDirector distributed prizes tothe winners of the various com-petitions like essay writing andslogan writing on RTI. Non-teaching employees to protestagainst manhandling

JAMMU, Oct 12: Up inarms against alleged manhan-dling by a suspended Principal,Non-Teaching EmployeesAssociation of SchoolEducation Department JammuDivision, has announced to holdtoken strike from 10 a.m to 12noon on October 16:

All members of theAssociation will assemble inlawns at their respective place ofposting and hold protest to senda strong message to the higherauthorities for disciplinaryaction against the accusedPrincipal so that in future suchfrenzied incidents are not repeat-ed, said the Association presi-dent Bharat Bhushan Kotwal.

The Association alleged thaton October 10. Section Officerand other staff members in theChief Education OfficeUdhampur were manhandled byPrincipal, Pawan Kumar Singh,who has been placed under sus-pension and attached in theoffice of Principal SIE Jammu.
