DESCRIPTION

Kunsthal MaakMee (April 2013 – May 2014): ‘MaakMee’, is best translated as ‘Co-Create’, was the Dutch interactive exhibition project of Kunsthal Rotterdam in collaboration with the BankGiro Lottery (Dutch cultural lottery). Kunsthal visitors were given the unique opportunity to participate online in the realisation of an exhibition in the Kunsthal through the specially designed website www.kunsthalmaakmee.nl. First, the MaakMee community voted for one out of three proposed exhibitions. Second, they participated in the choices made for the development of the winning exhibition. Finally, they visited the Kunsthal to see their participatory work realised. MaakMee is a follow-up to Museum Minutes and Hipstamatic, earlier interactive projects in which the Kunsthal experimented with innovative museum presentations and public participation. MaakMee 2013 was a kick-off project, therefore, this edition and the website www.KunsthalMaakMee.nl were in Dutch only.

Kunsthal in short

• One of the best visited institutions of the Netherlands, with a national and an international appeal.

• Not a museum and no intention to become one.

• Located in a world famous building by architect Rem Koolhaas, an icon of the city of Rotterdam.

• With an eye for quality, reaching a vast public.

• an entry institution: many of its visitors had not visited a museum before.

• Maximum of ambition, minimum of subsidy.

Two pillars:

1. the Kunst (art)(Inter)national top quality exhibitions, in which renowned artists, not often exhibited in the Netherlands, are alternated with contemporary artists, photographers and (fashion) designers, like Jean Tinguely (2007), Alberto Giacometti (2008), Edward Hopper and His Time (2009), Edvard Munch (2010) and Jean Paul Gaultier (2013).

2. The Hal Exhibtions relevant from a public and societal stand point. Among others accessible family exhibitions, which the Kunsthal is known for, i.e. ‘Dinosaurussen’ (2006), ‘Glorie van Rome” (2009),’Tour Experience’ (2010) en in 2011 “Mummies. Het ontrafelde geheim!”.
