A GOOD-sized field continuedto enjoy the recent run of goodgolfing conditions as they com-peted in last Sunday’s annualDrummond Golf 2 person ambrosecompetition.

After a bit of wise advice fromour captain Bruce the “shot gunstart field” spread out and got awayon time at 7.30 am.

The morning dampness had itsway early for a number of theteams, with the course once againmastering the aspirations of themajority of golfers.

However, the course did notfaze the team comprising of two“in form” ladies, Di Kenefake andJo Jennings, who were ably sup-ported by the steadying bloke in-fluence provide by one J Hodgens.

This team managed to defeatthe dynamic duo of Johnston andBalm by the narrowest of margins0.25.

The nett score of 60.5 was muchtoo good on the day for the rest ofus battlers.

Golfers enjoyed the day, as a bitof ambrose always serves break upthe routine, and for some the mo-notony, of continual alternatestroke and stableford competitions.

Next Sunday the club is con-ducting a stroke event, whichshould present our golfers with an-other opportunity to challenge thecourse rating whilst the run of goodweather holds.

Time sheet for this is on the no-tice board, first tee off is at 7am.

Our captain Bruce has advisedthat he will be organising a nine-hole Katherine Pennants team’send of season BBQ bash.

Graciously, Bruce has advisedthat Katherine rebels from theJabiru 2 side are most welcome.

This will follow the KatherineVeterans nine-hole competitionand will give us an additional op-portunity to farewell John Payne,and reminisce on last season’s glo-ries.

Sounds like a long day for

some.Last Saturday a small field of

those members of the KatherineVeterans Golf Club that were notput off by an early morning storm,competed in a nine hole strokecompetition.

Unfortunately, I have not beenadvised of the identity of the Vetwho streaked away from the restof the field to savour the valuableVet’s purse (will provide detailsnext week).

Next Saturday at 10.30, the Vetswill polish off their armour to yetagain enter into a Kegs coordinatedconflict over nine testing holes.

Pre-match briefing will takeplace in the club at 10am, “juniors”and visitors again most welcome.

Keep reading this space as nextweek I will provide full details onthe NT Open and the Veterans NTOpen.

Both will be held at the DarwinGolf Club in the last week in May.

NT Golf is expecting big fieldsthis year so get your nominationsin early.

THE Katherine Tennis Club iscommencing junior coaching for2013.

Could all parents/carers of chil-dren who are interested ensure theClub has the junior player’s detailsand you know when coaching is start-ing.

There are a few places still avail-able.

All children need to be membersof Katherine Tennis Club; the Club isregistered with Sport and Recre-ation’s Sport Voucher program.

Junior membership is $50/yearand a family membership is$200/year.

our ‘three set a night’ format with thefirst set getting underway soon after6.30pm.

Players who like early nights andthose who can’t arrive until later willbe accommodated to ensure everyonegets as much tennis as they want.

Millie is in charge on Tuesdaynights from 6pm to answer anyqueries or help players with theirmembership.

accident insurance, and free use ofmembers’ courts, access to the lights,subsidised ball fees for social tennis,use of the Club BBQ and facilities(by prior arrangement) and regularemail updates of tennis events, suchas NT wide tournaments.
